Paint Shops in PA (near State College Area)

Has anyone painted their whole car?

I want to paint my car, and was wondering if anyone knows any good shops in PA, maybe like 1 to 2 hours from State College area.
Its just here in state college i went around and asked, and they gave me quote to $2000 to paint my whole car. I think that's wayyy to expensive. I remember when I used to live in Cali, in Sacramento, I had my car painted for $550 bucks. and the guy did a very good job on it.

So if you know any good cheap places, tell me, thanks a lot.

$2000 to paint your whole car is probably par for the course (depending on how much body work/prep is required).

For $550, you can get it done at Maaco and kiss your resale value goodbye.

I have heard before the best way to get cheap paint/body work is to do the following:
1. Find a reputable shop
2. Call and ask to speak with their best paint guy.
3. Ask him if he does side work and would be interested in doing a couple 'small' jobs.
4. Pay him a decent rate as long as he does a good job.

Most shops allow their employees to use the shop for their cars and/or family and friends. Some are actually open to side work. Of course it depends on the shop, but asking never hurt.

Good luck. If you find a good place, let me know. I am thinking of getting my car resprayed in a year or so and wouldn't mind driving a couple hours if I knew what I was getting into.

How far are you willing to drive? I have a good buddy in the Wilkes-Barre area..I graduated from PSU its like a 2 hr drive. Anyways..to be honest $2000 is a good price to get the whole car painted. You get what you pay for, beleive me with all the prep work (sanding, primer), paint and clear it will be at least $2000. What did they do for $550 in Cali...just throw a fresh coat of paint on????? Paint is not cheap either...when i repainted my bumpers, it was $70 for a pint.

Talked to my buddy, he said around 2500 which includes primer and sanding. He was wondering if you are painting the car a new color? HE said it may cost a upto $3000 if you are painting the door jams
