Our cars are worth JACK SHIT

its tru, they are worthless. I went to nissan this past weekend to see about some of the deals they were advertising on the maxima, and i told them i would trade in my cl-s (just for the quote) and they told me that my 2001 type s is worth 15 to 16 thou give or take some hundreds, and my buy out was almost 22 thousand bucks. i have my car on lease till august and if i would have traded i would have been 6 grand in the whole. how sad is that. the manager at nissan couldnt believe his eyes when he heard the person at honda amercia tell him, he had to ask 2 times. the salesmen said maybe he could work out a deal on a maxima, but not the new Murano, which really caught my eye. Anyone else see it yet, its sweet, but i still would take a MDS over it.
just thought id let u all know my delema, anyone else get told out car is worth SHIT.

1) bluebook means shit, especially to dealers
2) dealers will never pay that much for a trade cause they have to be able to turn it around and make a profit on it.
3) cars in general are a depriciating investment unless you are buying classics and exotics dont expect your car to be worth anything.
4) So if you feel you should get more for your car then take the private selling route
5) and unless the dealer is offering you 2000 for a 2002 cl-s with 400 miles on it, then they are problably offering you what they think can sell the car for after paying to safety it and then sticking 2-3g markup on it. This being a fairly reputable dealer
6) Your car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it, accept it or not. Most domestic cars have shit for resale, why, cause no one wants them. same goes for any other car. its all based on model and demographics and location.

I can trade an LS400 in cleveland for 1-2g more then i can trade it in akron, why, demographics. I know this cause Ive done it to prove it to a former customer

Cars is a shitty business, i know, i spent some time selling, and while i hated doing it for the most part, but I learned a ton and know how to buy and sell on my own. And while im nowhere near being in the car business anymore the knowledge comes in handy, i help my friends all wheel and deal when they get new cars.

And since you are in a lease that make things harder cause you have a buyout on a car that retains a good chunk of it value.

With cars you can do things
1) CHILL OUT and deal with it
2) give your a heart attack and bitch and moan how the world is trying to take you for a ride

I prefer option 1

It has a lot to do with the low financing and incentives on New cars IMO.

Even if true, that are cars are "worth jack shit," I take this to mean that you better be enjoying the hell out of it!!

You're leasing, so it shouldn't be much of an issue for you. Just wait a few more months and you can cut your losses then. Let Acura deal with it.

On the other hand a local dealer is asking 28k for a used 01 CL-S

Never trade in at a dealership! That's just plain DUMB.

Also, wtf is a MDS?

Delema is spelled dilemma, for future reference.

PERSONAL VALUE...

all cars are based on personal value.. no other way.. whats it worth to you?! Thats the question you need to answer when buying a car because the depreciation dropped $5k as soon as you drove it oiff da lot...

hell my 1st gen is 5 years old.. i have alot invested probably totaling $60k+, bought it for $30k after taxes, to me its worth every penny, tyo a dealer its worth $10k...

If youhave NO PERSONAL VALUE to it and want to get rid of it for a MAXIMA... deal with the loss factor, its the way the world works... in business terms.. OPPORTUNITY COST VARIABLE! If you are willing and wanting to trade it, your opportunity cost is the $$$ loss... is it worth it to you?!

especially at dealers. I never have and never will traded in a car to a dealer.... not worth it at all. When I got my TL-S I sold my 3.0 CL for $3k more then the dealer was offering me for a trade-in....

I made sure to let them know that when I picked up the TL-S... and it was sweet b/c they were shocked....

sycdnm is right, when you trade in a lease car, You have to pay off the lease. For example: Say that you lease a car for 12 months, and you are paying 300 a month/ 3600 for the for 12 months. At the end of the lease you should had pay $3600. And you want to trade it in on the 8 month $2400. You are responsible for the remanding balance of $1200. $2400x$1200=$3600. That's why you had to put $6000 grand down to pay the lease off and down payment for the new car.

Ugh, resale at a dealership.

I went to an Acura dealer to look at an CL-S 6-speed. I really liked the car.

I asked trade in on my 2001 Audi TT 225 Coupe 6-Speed with all options except nav with 15,000 Miles.

$22,000!?!?!?!

Yikes! I guess I'll be delaying my purchase of an Acura. Anybody want a good deal on a TT?
