it probably needs to be lightly sanded w/ 1500 grit sand paper and buffed out.

OMG that fucking sucks.
I feel your pain cause when I was 16 I did it myself. ONe of those things that you wish somebody would have told you. Coarse materials are BAD for your car.

Wax that area with some car wax. It will remove light scratches.

Polishing Compound should work!!
will probably remove it; then use Scratch X from Meguairs (SP), then a good wax. You will never know it was scratched. Next time use alcohol or an "Oops"type cleaner used lightly with a paper towel or q-tip.

the buffing and waxing are temporary cover ups.
they have colored waxes that might help.

if done correctly it will never come back.
just waxing it wouldn't work very well at all. the scratches from a green brillo pad are at least 400 grit

Agreed........they have solvents out there that take glue off pretty easy.

you were recommended very high grit sandpaper... it will evn out the surface and then need to be buffed to restore the shine...
sandpaper can be purchased at any home improvement store....

Find a local Auto paint shop- they carry #2000 grit wet sand paper. Hint: Cut a small strip off and soak it in water overnite- this really helps keep down the roughness even further. Use prenty of water when sanding and use a really lite touch!!

Although it's too late now, you should have used a dab of Goo Gone. (That's what I did when I removed the badges on my Accord.)
