Oil Change From Hell

I just recently purchased my 03 cl type s with approx 78,000 miles. I noticed the other day some oil spots under the car and took a closer look. It was comming from the oil drain bolt. I took an even closer look and saw that there was no cruch washer of any sort. So went to the acura dealer and bought a new bolt and a few crush washers. Well changed the oil this past weekend, and apon removal of the drain bolt, it was hard to break loose, and seemed to be cross threaded. Whit the bolt out and the oil completely drained i found peices of a heli core on the old drain bolt. I took a look at the oil pan and could see what was left of it. The hell of it was the threads of the heli core were no where near the same as the STOCK drain plug i removed. I got all of the metal out and evned up getting a new drain plug that was especially made to re-tap a drain pan and i installed it with a new crush washer. My prob is that i still have oil seaping by the drain plug. Any ideas on how to fix this, other then getting a new drain pan? Maybe some teflon tape around the last few threads on the drain plug? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The correct way to fix this would be a new oil pan.. I had mine replaced a few months ago for free when an oil change shop stripped my pan. I highly doubt Teflon tape would hold up too well, but its cheap so worth a try.

I would use a temporary plug (they hold pretty well, I had one for 5-7k miles when my pan was stripped), then save up for a new oil pan.

Ok thanks, did you get your new pan from the dealer? And how much, was a new oil pan gasket needed?

As for the gasket, go to Honda and ask for the liquid gasket that they use on oil pans. Honda doesn't use gaskets on the oil pans, just that liquid gasket stuff...

when replacing the oil pan do you need to remove the down pipe or can you get the pan out without removing it? Thanks again. Just want to know of anything that i would need a heads up on. Thanks.

my oil bolt stripped and i had to replace the pan. yes you need to drop the down pipe and use the honda silicone stuff. i would replace the oil pickup while you have the pan off, it's a fairly cheap part and easy to switch.
