The shop looked like a hospital and was so clean you could eat off the floor. The three times I had to use them the cars came out better than they went in because you got a full detail so they could make sure the paint matched in both color, depth and consistency. I'd only take my car to a high-end shop.

omg man.....it's a joke. Of course, you pay for what you get no doubt

I think that typically the damage repair cost has to be about 60-70% of the car's value to be totalled. However, if it's the current year model (an '03 crashed in 2003), insurance companies want over 80% of the car's value to total a new car.

In your case, I doubt the damage repair bill would come out to over 20 grand. But there are exceptions, such as severe frame damage where there's no other serious damages to other parts of the vehicle, etc. If the doors were jammed and the trunk popped up (you said you slid sideways into the pole?), there's most likely quite a bit of frame damage.

Make sure you're there when the insurance adjuster writes up the damage estimate. Tell him/her that it's a performance-oriented car, and the slightest bit of frame damage could throw everything off even after extensive repair. In other words, just say "It will never be the same." And we're not talking about a Saturn here, either.

Sorry about your misfortune, but sh*t happens.

Good luck.

Dammit, I meant compliment the M3. I'm stupid.

If the car isnt totalled go to a body shop that is reputable and could honestly say that the car would not be safe to drive due to frame damage. Next if they cant honestly say that then get a lawyer to say that.

Yes, but if they total it, the body shop would get nothing out of this. Maybe they would get it quoted so it's out of reach of being "totalled" but it will still cost more than a regular body shop. It's sort of a catch22.

Well as suspected, the car is not totalled......its roughly about $12k in damage. The guy said it will take a day or so to order all the parts and put a complete bill together.

So, after I get the Evo back I'll probably order an 04 S2K.

The STi is still a thought, but I'm having a hard time liking the style.

Appreciate all the comments, read them all

I think you need to go drive the sti, I sitll think it looks way better than evo, but an s2k would be a nice choice too.

Heh, this man gets to try out all my target next-cars. :-p

Btw, I'm sure whatever happened at the scene of the accident, having those Evo-7 taillights helped bolster your story by not making you look like a street-racer in a ricey car.

beltfed,

man that kid should've been on his knees begging for his life.

i can see you calmly getting out of the car, just restraining yourself... which is impressive. i know how upset I was when a car wash took a divot out of my rims.

are you tight enough with your insurance agent to get the thing totaled? how about the adjustor?

i can't believe I didn't even get to see the thing before somebody took its cherry.

i'm pissed.

shit.

beltfed,

if u really want to total it but do somethin risky take it to a body shop or collision that you know the owner of and have them "tweak" it to make it totaled

just make sure your insurance dont find out

Yup, car is not totalled.....has about $10-$12k in damage as mentioned above. The autobody guy was in the process of ordering the parts last week (no concrete price yet). That's all for about now.

Once I get the car back, I'll attempt to get rid of it.

Amir, I deleted the photos off the host.....but I'll try to get them back up later and send them to you.

Not sure, if I sell it privately....there goes the tax savings on the trade-in (about $2k worth).

Good question though.
