Official word on new brakes/rotors (UPDATED)

After speaking with my service manager, who spoke with regional service reps, we have determined that there are NO UPDATED rotors/pads for the CL. Anyone who has gotten their pads/rotors replaced has simply gotten new pads/rotors, there is no "new" design from Honda/Acura as of yet.

I know there were a few people on here who said that their service orders said "revised" or "updated" but the part numbers were IDENTICAL and Honda has confirmed no new parts. If anyone here has gotten these so called "revised" rotors/pads, please give me the part # and I can check it against the existing part #s.

The 2002 TL's definitely got improved pads and revised brake calibration - it was in the Acura press kit. As for the part numbers not changing, if Acura changed the spec they wouldn't necessarily change the part number if the new part is designed to be backwardly compatible. Someone on the board who totaled their early build CL said they noticed a huge difference in the brakes on the newer build CL they bought as a replacement. Since so many parts are shared between the TL and CL and they’re built on the same assembly line it makes sense that Acura would put the better brakes of the new TL on the CL also.

I just got my rotors " Cut " last week, I only have 15k on the car. This was covered as warrenty work. If I have any other problems I will insist on new parts for sure!

I had my rotors resurfaced on Wed. (8/29) due to a vibration in the steering wheel while braking. According to the service manager, they replaced my brake pads as well. This was all done under warranty @ 16500 miles. I also had my 15k service done, which cost me $89. They did not do the tranny fluid replacement because I had a new tranny put in @ 14k miles. And they used the Mobil1 oil that I supplied.

I had my Pads&Rotors replaced on my 2000TL.
This was done while the car was in for 15K service. They had the car for 2 days & gave me a 2001 Integra loaner. The pads/rotors were replaced under warranty I had 15,105 miles on a 19month old TL. I had told them about the problem of wheel vibration from high speed when braking before. Here is the part numbers PAD SET FRONT #45022-SOK-A11
QTY 2 DISK FRONT 16. # 45251-SOX-000
I also had warranty work done to the center armrest that would not latch& had 4 missing screws. They replaced that & I had 2 A/C Filters replaced. This cost $27.06 in parts& $78.50 in labor. I aslo had Air Cleaner replaced $28.25 cost of part. The other stuff was what they do at 15K service. MOA Oil Treat, SGT Fuel Treat, 5W30 CASTROL Oil, Brake Cleaner. They Inspect Exhaust/Idle Control C/V Joints etc. my bill came to $289.46 If I had not got the 2 A/C Filters replace it would have been $100 less.

sometimes part numbers will change, but the part is the same, i think it has something to do with pdc restructuring

Technique,

After getting the same B.S. from my dealer, I called Acura Customer Service (ACS), and they intervened on my behalf. I received new replacement ROTORS and NEW-design pads FREE of charge:

PAD #45022-SOK-A11
DISK: # 45251-SOX-000

These are the SAME part numbers as the TL!!!

Call ACS. Mention "acura-cl.com" and tell them you are an INFORMED consumer.

I barely have 15K miles and have already had my rotors resurfaced and pads replaced twice. They say they won't give me knew rotors until the rotors get thinner than a predetermined measurement set up by Acura. Till then they say it's safe to continue cutting them. The second time my rotors went out in about 3K miles.
