Don't use anything lower than 91 (stated in the owners manual)...please don't be cheap with your TL. I use ultra94 on mine and she loves it!

Plus over time, I think using 87 will hurt her in the long run.

It is your car so it is your choice, however..

You will get a worse gas mileage with 87
You will get less HP with 87
Your engine may ping/detonate with 87 if you push it hard under the load

87 octane has less Oxygen per gram then 91 or 93, so it does not burn as quick as higher octane fuel. This could yield an insufficient amount of fuel under high rev's or high load.

You may use 87, but it really comes down to how long you plan to keep the car. is $.30 difference per gallon worth it?

Your better off using the suggested 91 or higher because our engines run better on higher octane you will get better gas mileage and performance with the higher octane. You might save a little on getting the lower octane but your gas mileage will suffer and probably performance also so in the long run you might as well use what's suggested anyway

I run nothing but Shell 93 from the same pump at the same station. Helps keep accurate count of mpg.
