i'm not going to get into the whole debate here about obx/comptech. but...$30K is not a whole lot of money for a car. while it's not a small chunk, it definitely doesn't break the bank for those that do purchase. it just shows that people who buy a CL range from one scale to the other as far as income. some will purchase as their primary "luxury" vehicle...for some, it's their daily beater while they drive their beamers and luxo SUVs on the weekend.

what they spend additionally on mods (if they decide to do so), will be relative to their income level...each person is going to be different, so that blanket statement of $30K...go big or don't go at all...doesn't apply to everyone.

btw, it goes both ways.

And there are problems w/ every single product out there. If you buy something and it breaks does it mean it's necessarily junk? I bet there will be a ton of people out there who will never see this problem. The big problem right now is OBX's customer service. They really need to be handling this, I know they've done it for others. I wouldn't let the problem drop. HOwever this is a minor problem compared to a lot of aftermarket products out there. YOu wouldn't believe how many parts I've seen on various cars that don't bolt up at all and you end up having to do a ton of fabrication. This is a small small problem.

Scott,
I think you are one of the few that got my point in this thread.

For the rest of you guys, the bad product did turn me against OBX. It was the BS run around that got me upset.

btw, I received a return form from SSAutochrome customer service. Their whole reply email is just that form. There is no telling what would happen or how long it would take (they have none in stock). Since I was given the BS from OBX, I already had it fixed for 10 bucks. Also, I definately do not want to go through the double removal and double installation (obx out, stock in, stock out, obx in) process.

Exactly, i wasnt even considering headers as a mod but the difference between 355$ and 1100$ is very substantial.

Silverknight, I'm very surprised OBX is treating you this way, as they took care of me and mine weren't from a dealer but from a private seller, go figure. I would still keep trying anyway, sorry again as I don't like to see people go through this kind of shit.
This also makes me believe OBX is having more problems with their products than we all realize and can't continue to keep up with the amount of complaints with their products, who really knows.
What I do know is that after buying the Comptech's and comparing to the OBX, I just laughed at myself. Had I known the difference prior, the OBX would have never gone on my car but I was a believer OBX was as good. I had a few friends with Comptech's who had seen both but I didn't want to listen to them.
It's like comparing a Volk racing wheel to a Konig, night and fucking day.
The materials aren't in the same league and either is the craftsmanship, it's a cheap copy of the Comptech's without any carb certification to boot. None of the flanges on my OBX's were flush, I won't even get into the welds, which were a joke by comparison.
My Honda tech commented how the Comptech's went on like stock, while I thought back to how he called me three times during the OBX install, since it was such a pain in the ass. Even after getting the OBX's to go on the car, he didn't feel good about the fitment and warned me that movement from the block under hard accelaeration was going to stress the OBX's, since fitment was so tight. So, where's the bargain here?
For $350.00, what do people really think they are getting?
Overpriced or not, the Compech's are well worth it and so is my beloved CLS, I'll never cheap out like that again.
Give some more time with the OBX headers and many more people will be here with the same exact problems.
Besides, don't you guys want to support a company like Comptech, who puts the work in designing all of these great mods specifically for our Honda's? They do a fantastic job in offering top quality products, not to mention their outstanding customer support.
Comptech would have fixed Silverknights header problem with no questions asked, so what's that worth?
Good luck to you OBX guys, I hope you fare better than Silverknight and myself did.

Well, a post from the odd-ball:

I've had my OBX headers for about a year (10/02) and they've had no problems.

I'm sorry to hear about the problems with OBX and their customer service!

Seems like a welder might be able to repair that if you don't want to spend more money than you have to.. :-(

Hey silver,

I posted the exact same thing 3 weeks ago. I have the exact some crappy weld problem as you. Rear header has that little puncher in it. I try contacting OBX and they never e-mail me back. They finally replied asking me to fax them the warrenty card, which i never filled out.

SO what are you going to do now? Are they going to send you a new pair or will you repair them or get CT ones? I don't have money to do anything much, i'll probalbly have to take them off, have the exhaust leak re-welded and reinstalled

Do you have OBX's phone number?

I 100% agree. Its amazing how much cheaper headers for like a chevy are. My buddy with a 95 suburban has a whipple supercharged 454, his BIG BLOCK Doug Thorley chrome headers were 200$. These are considered very good headers... All his flanges were flush, no cracked welds in the year he's had them. If engine tourque was a problem for cracking headers, he'd do it .. the monster puts out 500hp and 739tq at the crank. He's blown out 3 sets of high flow cats but no header problems.

My question is, if that company can make big block V8 headers (these things are by no means small) for that price, why on earth does it cost Comptech 1000$ more to make SMALL V6 headers??? I think its because a dozen companies make Domestic headers. I'd love to know how much of a profit Comptech makes off every set of headers. I'd bet its half of what we're paying for them.
