Noticable Gas Milage Dif. with CAI
I am still considering if I should get a new CAI.
My gas milage is bad enough as it is, @ 300 kilometers per tank (65litres) @ 94 octane at $1.15 per litre I pay about $70 a tank (tank always has a few litres in it still of course)
Will I notice a big gas difference with the CAI?!
our cars are already kinda CAI, because the factory one already reaches to the bottom, and has the resevoir for air to flow in. So it shouldn't be already noticable.
I am not trying to be cheap, but coming from an american 3.3 litre v6 sedan (super heavy) to a japanese v6 3.2l coupe. I thought I would get better milage.
Funny thing is, I can drive this car hard and shift at 5k RPMS all the time and get the same milage is leaving it in D5 and driving like a granny.
The dealer told me to track my milage and let them know if it's consistant, they're gonna check it out if it is.
Funny thing is I drove to seattle from vancouver and I got 350K, not much more. I thought I would gain much more milage on the highway then what I expected.

cai should give better gas mileage, but you might have other problems. any cel lights on? and a cai will give performance, do a search for aem or comptech icebox.

I have a six speed and icebox intake, Nismo. I did notice a power gain, but really not much of a difference in fuel economy. I have to be honest though, I do not track mpg too carefully.
Get the intake for the performance enhancement and know that it will not hurt gas mileage.

it all depends on how hard you drive the car IMHO
On freeway driving, if i'm easy going, i average 32 mpg. And I just verified that on my last trip i made up north.
But if i'm hard on it, i average around 20-24mpg.
it's all in how you drive your car.
Now if you add a supercharger, no matter how you drove, your mpg would go down noticably.

Cool thanks guys. I appreciate the input.
I heard that a CAI will cause more air to go into the throttle hence needing more fuel for mixture.
So I assumed it would cause worser gas milage

300 Km ~ 180 miles on a tank - that's absolutely heinous.
180 miles/14 gallons burned before the low fuel light comes on....
12.8 mpg....
even with hard driving i still get 300 miles a tank - highway i average 30-31 mpg
the service department needs to check it out - if your province has an emissions test i doubt your vehicle would pass

I didn't do that calculation, but your right, even with hard driving i still get 300 mi for 14 gal ~ 21.428571428571428571428571428571 mpg
Long distance highway driving i get about 450/14 gal ~ 32.142857142857142857142857142857 mpg
There may be wrong with something your car, o2 sensor perhaps? that's should be one of the first things to check.

technically any engine mod is supposed to give you more mpg since there is more airflow, but especially with the CAI your foot tends to get heavier and the mpg decreases with that..I loved that sound the CAI made during WOT

I know you said "technically any engine mod is supposed to give you more mpg since there is more airflow..."
but it's the combination of components and the way they are developed together that helps either promote or degrade gas mileage.
But consider this, adding a supercharger in no way promotes gas mileage. even if you were to drive very easy on a CL-S that has a SC, I'll bet that your gas mileage will still go down.
It's not a question of just more airflow into the engine providing better mpg, it's about timing, exhaust, how the electronics control the engine, and a hell of a lot more.

mine is right around 275miles before the idiot light comes on, round town driving. Straight highway, got as high as 320. Haven't noticed any difference with CAI.

I don't even have the CAI installed yet! and I am getting 300kilometers a tank.
I talked to the service guy about this once, and he was like, uhh I have a 3.0 CL (older gen) and he said he gets about 350km per tank. So I was like uhh ok.
I guess I should bring it in, I notice my exhausts always smoke, when its warm or when its cold, theres always smoke(visible exhaust fumes) coming out. Which i found odd, and tons of it too. I thought it was kinda cool. Although it never smelled bad or anything.

390? at what point do you fill up? what octane are you putting in? I'm putting in 93 or 94 depending on whats available. And i try not to have the light come on, otherwise you start sucking up all the crap thats at the bottom of the tank. (unless thats not true, I've always been told that.)

But then that would negate the whole reason for getting the S/C anyway.

I fill up just before the light or sometimes at the light.
I always put in 94 octane Chevron gas(for those of you on the westcoast)

I noticed a mpg gain when I added the CAI and headers, and most noticeably after I added my Unichip, since it leans out the air/fuel mixture.
There were times on strict city driving where I'd get anywhere from 220-250 miles before I filled up (I usually dont wait for the light, I fill up between having 1/4 of a tank and near empty). Now with the Unichip, I easily can get around 280 miles before I feel the need to fill up. Highway driving I notice the same thing. I've gotten to almost 400 miles before wanting to fill up ... and I probably could have gone another 100 miles highway driving easily (light wasnt on, so I had at least 3 gallons left).
I never top off when I fill up either ... always worried about clogging the evaporator (cant remember wtf its called right now).
But you should see an extra 1-2mpg with the CAI after the ECU adjusts, assuming you don't drive the car differently.

Whoa man, something must be wrong or you drive very poorly. Check your plugs, fuel filter, clogged air-filter etc.
I get about 310-340 miles / tank with the turbo EVEN when I do floor it once in a while. Otherwise I can get 400 miles of straight highway driving without flooring it at all. It helps to have the wideband - try to keep it oscillating around 14.7 at all times

Yeah I gotta bring it back to the dealer, still under warranty right. On vacation right now, bring it in when I get back. Hopefully they will find the problem. I've checked plugs, air filter and stuff.
