Newbie Question- Transmission Problems

I tried to search the forums for previous posts about tranny issues but didn't find any answers to my questions. As soon as I sell my 03 Maxima I will be in the market for an 01 or 02 CL or CLS. I've been told that the trannies on these cars had some serious issues.

What is the actual issue with the transmissions? Shifting?

Were these issues actual recalls or are they TSBs? I've already been through the TSB nightmare with my mustang tranny

If they are recalls, in theory, if I buy an 01 and have issues it should be replaced for free?

Are the replacement trannies really fixed? My ford TSB only reduced the problem but didn't actually fix it.

I'm not looking to get into a headache so I just want to make sure I shouldn't stay away from these cars. I'm assuming the TL has the same tranny too?

Thanks for the help ahead of time.....

If you know how to drive stick, get an '03 CLS 6MT or TL 6MT -- no worries.

WOW! All these tranny horror stories are telling me to stay away from Acura's....unless I pick up a standard....
Even with the 100K 7 year warranty I'll still be a regular at the dealership....
Is it worth the hassel??????????

I say keep the maxima. Why would you buy an older car than you already have??? It's not like you have a 03 civic or neon or something. Maxima is a great car. maybe not as good looking but overall I think good competition to CL.

The max is nice, fast, low miles, but I don't keep cars for more than 6 months...I can't stand losing money because cars depreciate so fast. I look for the deals, drive, then dump for somewhat of a profit....Thought I would give the CL a try but maybe I'll wait and pick up an 03 stick....no problems that I've heard...

Thanks for all the input!
