Looks like I will get one of these in 2006!
Consider it a done deal! My next ride will be a Supra.

looks are not that important to supra buyers, what is more important is if the new engines will be as good as the solid rock 3.0 2jz. the looks do count, but really there are much nicer cars than the supra. this new one should be promising though, since toyota wants to keep the legend of the supra alive. front is kinda bad though. id bet it will beat the Z like it has in the past.

Very interesting I wonder if this is the final design or just a tease. This car has many styling cues from the Toyota 2000 GT from the 60's especially the upturned quarter windows and the unusual front end treatment .I have read in other publications that Toyota for it's next supra wants to revive some of the heritage of the original 2000 GT in the new Supra .If they can pull it off the Z will have some interesting competition from it's home country .
Even though some liken it to the Maserati I'd say the resemblance to the 2000GT is strong. For those who do not remember the 2000 GT it starred in a James Bond movie as a convertible .The original car was made in the late sixties but was not a marketing success .The original car was if I am not mistaken was partially built by Yamaha .Only two convertibles were made both for the James Bond movie "You Only live Twice" .
If you look though some older Sport Compact Car magazines there were several articles written about the original car.

Hmmm...I kind of like it. I agree with an earlier comment that the important issue is just how bulletproof the motor will end up being, i.e. is it is as good as the last one?

I bet it will be bullet-proof. Every Toyota I have ever ridden in or owned (owned a Corolla, a Celica, a Camry, 4Runner) have been some of the finest built cars for the money anywhere. Yes they are more than Honda or Nissan, but god are they better built. Toyota is nothing byt quality IMHO...
The problem with Toyota these days is that while they make a high quality, feature packed and stylish ride, the performance has gone down hill. The "performance" factor is simply absent just when the market is really craving better performing cars. If Toyota doesn't do something soon with the Supra--or even do something better with the Celica and MR-S, they are going to completely lose out on a large part of the future marketing segment.
And don't talk to me about TRD--a TRD Camry or Solara with the s/c is well over $35,000 and they are both absolute dogs compared to a CL-S or TL-S...

EDIT: I just read the thread again...if it's N/A, it's not exactly a shabby motor, given the expected/rumored numbers. But, if it's eventually available with a Turbo, that thing could be beastly, cuz you know it will be bumped higher.

yes this will be my next car if toyota does its norm
this is what i've been waiting for.

No way there will be a turbo. Toyota learned that the hard way in the 90s. Most people won't pay over 30 somthing grand for a Toyota so they are going the way that Nissan went with the 350Z. Affordable yet performance oriented. I hope they have a luxury version just like the G35 coupe.

Don't get your hopes up too high Many Japanese models are not sold in the US. Don't think it will be back that soon(2004). If it does come back, it will probably be marketed under the new Scion name, not Toyota
