New PIAA 19224 bulbs. Same size as the Polarg M-6.

These are PIAA’s version of Polarg M-6 bulbs. They are also 18W and just barely fit. They are nearly identical to the stock headlights, since they are not true HID they are not perfect but 99% identical to stock and much brighter than the PIAA 19169 bulbs I had before.

“Our new Xtreme White Technology is the closest color yet to H.I.D. (High Intensity Discharge), without the cost. Brilliant in color and radical in technical performance, these bulbs elevate your car's road profile to a new level no matter what you drive.

“Miniature incandesent Xtreme White bulbs.”

The PIAA 19224 are at 4150K
The PIAA 19169 are at 3950K

Yea, I just installed them tonight.

They came out last week and I could only wind them at autobulbdepot.com for $12.50 a pair.

Do you think they are a closer match than the Polargs?

I'd sure like to see a side by side comparison of the Polarg M6's and these new PIAA's. Anyone have any pics?

I never got the M-6's so I couldn't say. But they look great and they don't cause excessive heat, so I'm real happy.

I would try them out side by side vs. the M6 but my arm cannot take the abuse anymore (already switched from PIAAs to M6 once). I still have bruises from months ago.

There is a FAQ post that talks about taking the road lamps out. After you loosen the screw, you can release the lamp and pull the whole road lamp out very easily and have complete access to the bulbs. I did it this way and only had to use my fingers to push the release tab. All together it took me less than 10 minutes to do both sides.

Does anyone have the PIAA 19172s? These are the 5 watt Xtreme White wedge bulbs, I don't want to throw the 18 watt bulbs in yet until other people in hot weather have them on through the summer.

sorry, guys, i came in late...r these bulbs for the road lamps on the bottom, or r they replacing the existing HID headlights?? if they're for the bottom road lamps, that would b awesome since i'm not real hot on the stock lamps and would love brighter ones.

Yeah, they're for replacing the road lamps so that they're brighter and a closer match to the headlights.

Those bulbs are easy to get to. The ones that were more of a pain in the ass were the turning signals, I didn't want to pull the inner fender out too much thinking it wouldn't flex right back into shape.

i'm sorry for being so technical/anal, but i really wanna buy these bulbs, and i don't wanna mess it up, but the PIAA site classifies these X-Treme bulbs as turn signals, side marker lights, and parking lights. is it safe to assume these bulbs work as road lamps?? and with the wattage so high, will there be any fuse-blowing issues?? thanks for your patience, u guys.

I may be wrong, but I believe that parking lights and road lamps are the same thing.

Also the PIAA web site says "Turn signals, side marker lights, and parking lights" even for the PIAA 19169 and 19173 which 1/3 of the people on this board have already used for months.

I never got the Polarg M-6 bulbs at first because they were 18W and our stock bulbs are 5W. But no one has reported problems with using an 18W bulb so I was sure that these would work. I mean PIAA is one of the highest quality light bulb manufacture out there. And like I said there was no excessive heat after being on for 20+ minutes.

No I haven't taken pictures of my car with the Eibach Pro-Kit installed. But a few CL-S members have posted pic of their cars with the Pro-Kit and it looks about the same.

Since the CL-P has softer springs I think the car gets a little lower than a CL-S with the same springs, but I have never seen them side by side so I couldn't say for sure. No more than 1/4 of an inch at most.

I just purchased them too, I currently have the Polarg M6 I will put one Piaa and leave the Other Polarg M6 on the other side and take a picture tomorrow ( hopefully they will come in tomorrow..I got next day Air) Hopefully the picture will show the difference. As far as putting the 18W Bulb, I have had no problem in Burning the bulb or frying the wires, I don't drive that much at night because of daylight time. I have some pics of the Polarg M6 on my link..check it out if you are interested.

here's a spin:

i've been reading on the installation of new road lamps, and lemme ask u guys, how difficult was it?? u should b able to take apart/put back together the units without taking off the bumper, right?? and as for the wiring getting/not getting fried, the wiring was originally set for the capabilities of a 5W bulb, but the PIAA's are 18W, so it really shouldn't b about the wiring but about the bulb itself, right?? i mean, if the wiring is set for 5W, will u still get the maximum luminosity (if there is such a word) with an 18W bulb??

Well, if you can get 18w out of the polargs, you have to be able to get it out of the Piaa's...depends on any fusable link inline with the roadlamps...etc...or any relays with fuses....

so does this mean one must tap into more power to get the 18W, or will the existing wire suffice?? since my automotive knowledge on wires is limited, the last thing i wanna do is start toying with tapping into other wiring to get the needed power to the new PIAA's.

It took me 10 mins to put in the PIAA 19169 and it only took me 5 mins to get the bigger PIAA 19224 in. I did the old stick your hand under the bumber move, which is a lot more difficult now that my car is lower. There is also a way to screw out the entire lens assambly which I might recomend since these bulbs just barely fut through the hole. A few people have broken their Polarg M-6's trying to stick them in so be carefull.

and as for the wiring getting/not getting fried, the wiring was originally set for the capabilities of a 5W bulb, but the PIAA's are 18W, so it really shouldn't b about the wiring but about the bulb itself, right?? i mean, if the wiring is set for 5W, will u still get the maximum luminosity (if there is such a word) with an 18W bulb??

Take your lamp at home for exammple. You can put a 40W bulb or a 100W bulb in the same lamp (So long is it is rated as such). And since numerous people have had the 18W Polarg's in their cars for 6+ months I feel pretty safe with the PIAA's. And there is a considerable difference between 5W PIAA's and 18W PIAA's.

never thought of the wiring that way before with your analogy. now that makes a lot of sense. i guess the ultimate change is the amount of battery used to power the lights. thanks so much for the info!!

Did you have to get a camber kit with your springs? I have the same springs on my car and i did allignment not too long ago, and these springs were already settled in...They said i majorly need a camber kit but those cost so much money... ANyone know if its necessary on the Prokit drop on the CL?

Any springs you buy Eibach, Comptech, H&R, etc... will move you car out of alignment. The only way to fix it is the camber kit. I have had my springs for 6+ months and have noticed slightly faster tire wear, but not much. Without the Camber kit your car will never be within factory specs.

I will probably get a camber kit when I upgrade my tires, so I don't wear them out to fast.

So, I would recomend it, especially if you plan on getting better tires for your car. Which you should probably do.

Yes, you can but you risk having your fuse blowed, relay fried, or even worse fire. But with 18W? I think the worst is some blown fuses and that's all.

very happy tonight. got my PIAA 19224's today and took all of about 5 minutes max to install. so far, no short circuits or blown fuses (knock on wood). they look incredible, a little more blue than the Xenon purplish hue, but still better than stock almost yellow very pleased with this purchase, recommend to all, and thank u all who suggested them.

Chris

so are you saying that these piaa 19224 will not melt the housing? or it doesn't melt it as quickly as the M6's?

Quick Reply: New PIAA 19224 bulbs. Same size as the Polarg M-6.
