new moda r6 17x7.5, springs & yoko avsdb 235/17/45

got my new Yokohama AVS dB 235/17/45 & moda r6 17x7.5 wheels on my already comptech springs lowered car.

first impressions (only driving on them a day now)
- no rubbing (no passengers)
- terrific traction / no squealing / obvious handling improvement
- slight steering change (wider tires=slightly more effort to steer?)
- lovely agressive looking tire
- no more protruding rims / similar 5 spoke styling of stock

took some digicam pics this afternoon, will post them soon.

after the first day of driving - i'm very happy with the purchase. looking forward to some of the white stuff to try out the snow handling capabilities of the yoko's

Bless you, bless you, bless you. I've been awaiting someone who is comptech lowered to tell us about the 235 wide tires and rubbing. I'm the same rim width and size. Now if you could just give us a hint of your rims offset I can go order those quiet tires in peace.

Thanks
Rob

Al Uminum - I am not sure what the offset on the moda's are... tirerack might have that info (??)

I have seen the 225's and figured the 235's would work or rub just a little - but so far - no rubbing for me at all.
But, I have yet to fill the car with a bunch of fat guys and try a full turn...

here are some pics:

Rob, you missed Techniques test of the 235/45-17 Toyo T1S Proxies on the SSR Comps with the Comptech lowering springs. The wheels are 17x8" +48 offset.

You can post a message to Technique (Dwight) if you like -- he put his SSRs and 235/45-17s on a fellow member's car that had the Comptech lowering springs. He reported NO rubbing with a full load of passengers in turns, etc…

The earlier report of rubbing with 235s on the front was reported to me as "fact" and the person who reported this “fact” never bothered to inform me (or others) that they had a problem with their spring install.

Another member is running Comptech's with HRE wheels 17 x 7.5" +52 offset and Toyo 235/45-17 proxies and so far so good.

Sweet ride, goldn1! Very simple rims, but they look real nice on the CL. Would've been nicer in 18 or 19 inch though.

Man, those are wide wheels, I'm surprised you didn't go with 335x30-17 rubber (j/k)

goldn1,
I love those Moda's, those things are sweet. If I haveto goto another rim, those are going to be it. Now all you need are some Brembo's

I almost bought those rims, but instead I bought Mille Miglia Evos. After seeing your pics, I've kicked myself twice.

Gold, they look great ! I like the look of a 5 spoke wheel. The Moda spokes are thinner than our stock wheels and look better imho.

Beautiful!

Nice choice of tires too; I'm going to try the Yoko Db's next I think.

BTW, I painted my calipers black and it was an improvement - but subtle. On your black car I bet red calipers would really look good.

Very sporty, yet classy 5-Spoke. I believe the R6 weighs 23 lbs per Tire Rack's info. Would have gotten it too if it weren't for the weight issue, but after seeing them on a real CL, Damnnnn, they look good! You just sold me on them!

I agree -- I would get rid of those terrible Toyos ASAP. They are terrible tires and I can't imagine anyone wanting to drive on them for more than a week or two...

RE: sig --> PsyOpsWarHorns

You forgot the 4000 AMP alternator

Are you heading out to the front soon? Is that why the Kittyhawk left with out its jets?

thanks all for the compliments and just to the board in general - I researched this for hours on the board before I finally decided.

235 tire thread

225 tire thread

best looking wheel thread

i liked the simplicity of the 5 spokes & wanted to stay in a 17".

I found I kind of had to go with the 235 for a safe load rating with the tire's diferent sizes. Fits nicely on the 7.5 wheel.

my acura wheel locks *will not* fit on the moda wheel. the shape just doesn't fit in there. i have to find an alterative.

These things ain't light racing wheels - the tire & wheel combined weigh about 50 lbs.

nova - i'm up for it. maybe sometime in nov? i think subtle black calipers would look great now that you can see them better (thinner spokes)

:o I've been hoisted on my own petard.

I bow down before the Toyo T1-S -the world's best performance tires . . . but they could be stealthier. This little Weasel is NOT wild about their SUV humming.

Not me. The Acura CL-S Wild Weasel merely counters road bogeys who attempt to cost time and money.

The stakes are a lot higher for the authentic Wild Weasels who have traded in their F4G's for F16-CJ's these days.

I wouldn't want anyone confused by my humorous metaphor of a nom de guerre. These guys are the real deal: http://wildweasels.org/
