* For Manual Transmissions Only
how could a CAI be specific to transmission type or am I misunderstanding something. Check their website under new products and where the new cai is listed they said in bold red letters * For Manual Transmissions Only

Lack of the VSA throttle in the MT.

VSA throttle is in between the throttle body and the stock air box. For an automatic, you remove the stock air box and attach the new CAI to the VSA.

Not sure what the manual tranny thing is about but the AEM V2 has been out for a while (we've had them for some time), but there is no application for the Type-S yet.. only the 2001-2003 CL-P and TL-P.

The intake tube on the automatic attaches to the VSA throttle. On the MT it attaches to the throttle body.

The VSA throttle sits before the throttle body on the automatic. This would mean the intake tube would need to be about five inches shorter on the automatic version. Refer to the below diagram for the flow path:

AT intake tract:

TB<----VSA<----Intake

MT intake tract:

TB<---------------Intake

So could you just get the one for the 6 speed and trim some off the end so it would fit into the VSA throttle??

Not likely with this design, it would probably affect the ability to give power over the standard intake:

But this is what I originally did back in 2000 on my '01 CL-S. I used the TL intake and cut it short.

If it's for 01-03 CL-P and TL-P , how could it be manual only . The manual is only avail on the 03 CL-S . Something is strange about the website , maybe we should try and purchase from another vendor other than AEM directly .

Unless there is a significant difference in design, one make of cai performs pretty much the same to another cai. You are not going to get any appreciable difference in HP. Another example is a platinum spark plug is a platinum spark plug. There in no measurable difference in performance among different makers. The manufacturers would like us to think there is a difference. They called it product differentiation in marketing

Don't waste your time... I am a vendor.. there is no part number for any Type-S applications, automatic or manual. The release for our cars is expected to be around June.

The manual only designation on the website is not talking about the CL specifically... it's just a general manual only statement. It seems that they put that statement in the wrong place. If you look at the application list there are certain models (Civic, Eclipse, etc.) that the V2 is only available for the manual. That's all.. just looks like they put the "warning" in the wrong location.
