New to Acura. Just got a 01 CLS to replace totaled Solara TRD
Ok, I'm new to Acura. Always had Toyota. Celica, Supra and Solara TRD. A little 17 year old girl decided to pull out of a driveway without looking first (2 days before Christmas). 45 MPH to 0 in 1/10th of second. Ouch. Needless to say, the Solara is totaled.
I picked up an Silver 01 CL type S with 94000 miles on it. Don't know anything about them yet other than I love it. It's fun to drive and very responsive.
The guy I bought if from said the trany as been replaced. How do I make sure?
Any other major issues I should know about or keep an eye on?
Yea, I know, I'm a noob. I'll pick the info pretty quick, but thought it might be easier to ask for help to start. I'll spend hours searching and reading on the forum to get up to speed. I plan on keeping it stock.
I know I need new tires. I spent all day today ripping off the limo tint. I'm putting 34% on it later this week.
Anyway, any help would be great. Thanks.

Well, in the Atlanta area, there aren't too many for sale. This one is the only one I found that wasn't in a wreck. He wanted 12.5.
As for the Supra, I had a `92. Couldn't afford the `93 and up. That's the main reason Toyota stopped selling them. They priced themselves out of the market. The 92 was still a pretty kick ass car. I wish I could have afforded the newer ones. Driven a couple of TT's. They were insane!!
Thanks for the info

I will be honest 11.2K was an OK deal, hopefully its in good condition. Only thing concerns me is your Transmission Warranty is up in 6000miles and soon after that your due a Major inspection with could be somewhat expensive depending on what needs to be replaced.
Don't get me wrong its a great car and for the money nothing comes close, but High mileage CL/S, i'm not all to excited about them.
As for the Transmission just bring it to a Acura dealer and they will be able to tell you if it has been replaced.

Welcome buddy, nice to hear you got one. I dont know what part of Atl you live in, but just take your car over to Ed Voyles Acura on Peachtree Industrial Blvd and they can pull up the vin and see what all has been done. Or you can call them. That is where I take my car, plus we do all there tint work for them.
As far as problems with the CL I would not worry to much. The tranny has been know to kill the boys on here but, knock on wood, mine has been great. But I do change the tranny fuild every other oil change. Just change that timming belt and water pump at 100k and you should be good till 200k.
Depending on how you drive in Atl you might have some trouble with the breaks/rotors but they should have been changed due to age or recall.
Good luck. enjoy that girl and lets see some pics.

Tint removal was a piece of cake. I have a steam cleaner. Just heat it up a bit and peal it off. I did use Simple Green and some 0000 steel wool to get the glue off. I love that stuff.

doesnt seem like the greatest deal to me but welcome to the board. I also just picked up an 01 CL-S with 28800 miles on it. I got it for 17100. I figured it was a pretty good deal. The exterior and interior is basically brand new. The engine bay is very clean. It has also never been in an accident.

Welcome abroad. I'm also in Atlanta. If you're worried about the transmission, I have a red one for sale with a lot less miles. Lol. Anyway, Check the meets section. There's a few of us Atlanta boys, and we're always trying to get together.

welcome to the boards. I lived in the Atlanta area for 5+ years, and Ed Voyles is definately the place to go. I think you paid a good price for the car, better than I did. If you are careful you should be able to enjoy the car for a very long time. Knowing that there are tranny problems should help guide you as to how hard to hit her. Every now and then is OK, but not all of the time. Enjoy the ride!

says "hello to my TLX".
the Solara is overrated. it's just that it's got more options for mods. the CL-S has got more potential. unfortunately parts are limited and pricey too.
anyhow. you made a good choice after your mishap. Welcome to ya.

One of the reasons I got the Acura is it's got a lot of the "sporty" features included with the package. The stock Solara is just a plain old 2 door Camry...Boring... You will need to drop at least another 7-10k to bring it up to speed with the CLS.

Confirmed that the Transmission was completely replaced at 84000 miles. I have about 10k on the transmission. What is the recommended maintenance for the new Transmission. I am assuming that the new transmission runs cooler.
I know i'll search for it as well...

it shifts differently than the original (smoother, longer engagement b/n 1st and 2nd). Mine crapped out 2x, once around 70K +- and then again at 95k. It's warranted until 105 and I just hit 100K. I will probably get through the rest of this year under warranty as I don't drive nearly as much as I used to (35-40 vs. 15) and my Z comes out in a few short months.

I usually drive pretty hard (when I can). Should I be worried about the shifting? Not used to the car yet and haven't really noticed a pattern yet, so please excuse my ignorance.

Some of stated they have felt less power, when my tranny was replaced @ 28k now i'm up to 70K, i have felt its either the same or little more......but the replacement was smoother shifting.
As for babying it when shifting, i don't and never will, some here baby there car's and never raced and there tranny still failed..... so who really knows.
I for one don't worry about it anymore..
