New 2003 owner in San Diego

New owner here looking for a few suggestions. Car is a used CL 3.2 type S just purchased with under 1400 miles on the clock.
Yes, that is correct, fourteen hundred, not fourteen thousand!
Car is equipped with dealer installed 18" chromed wheels at 235 x 40's. This has left a lot of wheel gap. I read the forums FAQ section but could not draw a conclusion from what was posted. It appears that Eiback springs are the best way to lower the car by 1" to 1.5" maximum. Is that a correct assumption?

Also, is a cold air box worth my time & expense on this car and would a new chip be of any real value.
This car will be my daily driver as I have other muscle in the garage for my real kicks. I am not looking to be the top dog around town with the CL. Just a better performing car is what I am looking for.

The original owner also swapped out the CL's stock radio for a Kenwood unit with a drop down face and a major amlifier in the trunk. Far too much complication for this old guy. Anyone know how I can obtain a stock radio set up?

Thanks. Any helpful reply would be appreciated. By way of introduction: I am not new to the appreciation of automobiles and have been into cars since the late '50's. I have done a lot of my own work on cars and have been down various drag strips far too many times to count. I have two 400hp + cars in the garage
which have become more or less gargare queens. Hence the need for a new daily driver to replace my aging Sterling.

Thanks,

KX

Welcome

nice car

as far as mods I would stick to Comptech they might a bit more expensive than others but their quality is top notch and have greater resale value

my only recommendation is the Comptech Icebox which is their version of an intake and cost about $250 last time I checked. Its good for about 10 lbs of torque

Congrats on the car and welcome to the board.

As far as springs go I’d recommend the Comptech Springs. The drop is very conservative with 1.5" in the front and 1" in the back however it looks great and keeps the ride fairly smooth.

The 2 big HP mods would be an intake, I’d go with Comptechs Icebox, and headers which again I’d go with the Comptech brand.

There's plenty more out there so get modding!

Thanks for the reply. I like the way your door sills look. Have any idea where I can get them? I assume that come in all the various
colors.

In the early '90's I again satisfied my thirst for some decent power and speed and bought a slightly used Corvette ZR1. Still have it but no longer drag race it. All I have done to it is a DRM skunk works chip, a full 3" exhaust sytem (no resonators) and some realy nice Walker SS mufflers. Car has done a best of 12.66 at 114.9. That was with drag slicks. When my older son was finished with college and using his '91 Camaro Z28 5.7 for commuting, we started out with a mod here and there. Over the years we ended up with about $8,000 in mods on what appears to be a totally stock Z28. The list of what it has is as long as my arm. Incredible looks, and has a best of 12.88 in the 1/4 @ 110. This car is a 700R4 automatic and is naturally aspirated although I built it to take a minimum 150hp shot of nitrous. It dynoed @ 465 ft lbs of torque! I just sold this car to a gent in Nebaraska but it is still in my garage till spring and the weather gets better back there. Even with all that American HP in the garage, I am glad I bought the Acura.
If you have never experienced 400+ hp with 4 cams and 32 valves in an American V8 at full throttle (the ZR1), I tell you, the sound and feeling is awesome. I have to be extremely careful on the streets and not give in to the temptation to take on a race here and there. Thanks for your interest.

I second the notion by Chaptorial for Comptech accessories. If you want a little more power but maintain most of the stock qualities, I would recommend the Comptech Icebox cold-air intake and the Comptech Headers. Both will not change the sound of the car much, but add an abundance of power especially in VTEC. There is a group buy going on for the Comptech Headers right now, at a great price.

As far as the wheel gap goes, again I would go with Comptech Springs. You can see pics of mine in my signature (click link). They are a great mix of functionality, looks, and performance.

Anyway welcome to the board and gooluck with the new CL!

You can get the sills here:

http://www.evolution-autodesign.com/...str=HOME:acura

They actually only come in brushed (like mine) or a chrome finish.

Thanks for the Evolution site info. I just bought the sills from them. The ZR1 site is a great site and it looks like this one will be great also. I appreciate the info.
