How is it going everyone? I just got a 01 cl-s about 1 month ago. It runs great just has a few dings here and there. 150,000 miles on the clock but the motor sounds very healthy. Only issue is slight jumps in the transmission. I have read and searched alot on the issues. I have only one question that i could not find. Is the tranny the same for a non s and the type s? I will post a pic in a little bit.

Welcome to Acurazine!

what do you mean slight jumps?

No, the non-s and type-s have different transmisions

Thanks. Sorry about the jump word. Example, in park there is a slight delay in changing to drive, and feels like a minor jerk. Do the transmissions have codes to identify them or is it just by type-s transmission?

A slight jerk is probably normal. Just keep your foot on the brake and the car stopped when you change from P to D.

The transmissions may have your VIN number attached on to it. Not sure why you would need to id your tranny though.

Not really looking to id my tranny. Just wanting to know if i am eventually going to need a new tranny, how to tell the difference between a type s one and a non type s one.

You can tell by the car they come from or the one you have. They will have a CL-P tranny on a CL-P and a CL-S tranny on a CL-S

A slight jump could also easily just be a bad timing belt. Alot cheaper fix too.

The CL-P and CL-S have the SAME transmission..

In 2001 and 2002 they used a BGFA and 2003 have a MGFA transmissions..
I tried searching with and do not know the difference between the 2 but they do use the same transmissions. I just went through my 3rd transmission and am now on my 4th. You can look at your transmission and see it there is a oil-jet where the ATF filler hole is and if there is a oil-jet chances are you have the original transmission. People say that acura "fixed" the transmissions that where put in the car after 2005 BUT i had one that was installed after 2005 fail at 60K miles even after babing her and changing the ATF every 15K miles.

Why do u want to know if they both use the same trans anyway?

I was gonna say...but everybody that knows already answered.

The -P and the -S trannies are the same. Except for 2003 the -S had the 6 speed option so you could pick if you wanted auto or manual.

The slight jerk could be anything.

Check ChodTheWacko's info page under my signature and read through all of the information, plus the FAQs in the forum to get a better understanding of your car.
