Need some help with my next car

This is my first post to this board. My current car (Prelude) is listed in my sig. I love it to death but I do alot of travelling and am looking for something a little bigger. I'm looking at alot ot sedans such as....
Lexus IS300, Acura TL-S, Volvo S60T5, Audi S4 (used ofcourse for reasons of $$$$), CL-S 6spd.

The CL-S 6spd is the only coupe since it is fairly roomy. I need some help choosing. I know that everyone will be biased to I've posted this up on other boards for their opinions as well. I dont want to give up the power/handling of my Prelude, but will give a little for a little more luxury/class. I look forward to everyones comments.

Id definately go with the Audi S4, but as you mentioned they are expensive. If you don't wanna go that route id definately go with a CLS or TLS. You would have to determine whether you want the 2 door or 4 door. IMO for the price you can't beat Acura. Goodluck

I love the Volvo S60 T5, got to get the 5spd.....thats a great car, would take that over my CL in a second- obviously is a more expensive car.

I'd go with the CL-S. Of course i'm biased, but there are great deals and rebates on 01 and 02s and for the money, you just can't beat this car.

I drove an S-60 light pressure turbo automatic last year and was pretty impressed once the turbo spooled up. Under that point it was pretty weak. I hope and assume the T5 maunal is better in that regard. I need a bigger car but dont want to lose the best qualities of the Prelude. Personally, the S4 would be my choice but the problem is finding a nice example with low miles for under $36K. I dunno. Ofcourse, I hear towards the end of the year Acura gives lots of discounts on the TL-S/CL-S, but I doubt they'll be forced to do that with the 6spd.

I have the TL-S, my mom has the CL-S, my friend has an IS-300, and don't know of any other people that I know personally with the other 2 cars you posted but I would go with the Acura for sure. The IS-300 is nice and all, but not all that. It mainly depends on if you want 2 dr or 4 dr.

Both the TL-S and CL-S is very nice. I prefer the TL-S because of the size and room and over all quality. My mom chose the CL-S because of the quality and also because it's only her driving and mainly riding in it, but I have friends who ride with me and my system and other things so I need the extra room when I go on road trips or out to parties or whatever I do. Either way, you won't make a bad decision if you get a TL or CL.

Wow....nice ride . One of the wierdest attribues I look for is sound. I like the way my Prelude sounds, but am looking for a very refined yet sporty sound in my next car (without the db level of the Prelude). I rode in an IS300 and it sounded oh so creamy. I haven't driven a TL-S/CL-S so I cant comment on it. I'm sure the turbo'ed Volvo has a nice wail as well.

Thank you for what you said.... The sound of the TL-S is very nice and sounds real good when you get on it and the V-Tec kicks in . When you add on some exhaust, (Comptech), sounds more sporty and has a low deep moan to it. But not a bad loud weedeater sound or anything like that, but it is very tasteful.

I know Audi makes some nice cars and volvo is starting to have decent things as well. I just know that Acura & Honda make and always have made wonderful cars that are long lasting with low maintenance.

What kind of 1/4 mile times/horsepower results could I expect with lets say....Comptech Ice Box intake, Comptech headers, and Comptech cat-back exhaust?

You can get 14.8 w/o any mods. Like stated earlier it depends on the weather.

Now is 14.8 stock with the 5spd auto? Or is that an estimate with the new 6spd? The way technology seems to be progressing, autos are accelerating just as fast as their manual counterparts given the same number of gears. I'd much prefer a 6spd manual since I've only had manuals in this car and my previous one. Any reviews on the 6spd out there?

You will probably run about 14.9/8 stock w/ the auto. The six speed, INMO, will not do that much to the 1/4 mile times, may be a couple tenths of a sec off, but will probably bring you to 6, or even, :gasp: high 5's to sixty. Add headers and the 1/4 mile time will go up, but the sprint to 60 will stay about even. Hope that helps, and by the way, BUY IT. If it was me, I would get the auto, sorry provench :o , just b/c I really like the adjustable heated seats and the VSA.

Yeah, from what I've read/heard the 5spd auto is no slouch! I jus prefer a manual. The decision is becoming more and more clear. Now it boils down to TL-S or CL-S (a nice used S4 is still in the mix though ). The Lexus IS is nice but as far as power goes it would get stomped by an Acura (relying on mag racing for this one).

As far as the tranny goes, to each his own, but you will lose some features. And go for the CL, we have enough TL lurkers around all ready :P . Plus, and I am gonna get flamed for this, FOUR DOOR CARS SUCK. :P

Yikes!!! My previous car was a 94 Maxima SE 5spd that, for the time, was the king of four doors (thus named the 4 door sports car). I may look into the new Maximas with the 6spd. I've heard of people hitting 14 flat with those suckers . Ofcourse the Acura is a much better lucking car.

Four doors aren't that bad, I guess, but I much prefer the look of two doors, but to each his own.

I understand. I actually prefer the lines of a coupe as well, its just that one of the reasons I'm going to sell the Prelude this summer is how much of a PIA it is for people to cram in there. Though I think the CL-S would be tremendously better in that regard.

It looks like you're going for the 6sp CL-S. :P I'm sure I don't need to tell you you're going to pay way over sticker right now... Would you be able to wait? maybe they'll surprise all of us and come out with some funky color or something? Possible a PDG 6sp! What do you think?

Of course I will recommend the CLS. But for perspective, I previously had a '97 Prelude (same body style as yours). If you really like the honda quality, then you'll like the CLS. I can't comment on your other choices since I have not owned them (rarely test drives give a good idea of what it is like to live with). You will find mods on the CLS available, but limited - except for body mods which there are none except for a spoiler. The CLS does slant more towards the luxury end of the spectrum, but with some mods you could put it more towards the sport end. I've had a lot of cars (see sig), and the CLS is my favorite so far of any of them with 4 seats. I like the luxury with enough power/sport to really enjoy when the mood strikes.

Yeah, I'll be able to wait. My insurance will expire in early August and that will be the one year anniversary of my purchase date so that is when I'll get something else. I certainly hope by than prices will have come down. Kinda like the RSX-S mark up. Now you can find them quite a bit cheaper.

Its not like I hate my Prelude. I LOVE it (just look at my sig.). I'm just growing out of it (and I'm only 22 ). I've always been drawn to luxury/sport cars (51%luxury/49%sport) but I just could not resist the look, rarity (at least where I live), and roar of the Prelude. Alas, this summer it will be time to move on. I'll probably starting driving some cars seriously in May so I have a while to ponder the issue on the internet.

That is for the 5 spd triptronic. The TLS/CLS is quick if it is just stock. When you add on things, like the headers, exhaust, intake, and say the new RES (MM1) and the MM2 that will be coming out soon that should produce about the same amount of HP like the headers but for half the price, you will see the car moving a lot more and of course with weather permitting.

Plus don't forget if you have the extra money, the Supercharger will be out soon as well. So instead of spending more money on a used car or something else, you can pocket that money, and put it into the Supercharger and all the other great products that they have available.

TypeSAddict: Are you saying the the CL is better than a TL? Cause it's pretty much the same, just 2 extra doors and 4 dr cars don't suck, that must be your job.:wackit:

2001Prelude: Either way if you get a TL or a CL, you will still get a great car no matter what. Just if you are looking for more room, the TL is there and doesn't lack in the performance or the looks. I myself am 21, and before the 02 TLS, I had the 99 TL when I was 18. My mom has the CLS, it's great but I prefer the more luxury sedan look.

Makes sense. The only thing I generally think is a pain with the CL is the lack of four doors... Generally it doesn't matter. But alot of times Sara and I will go out and her two sis's will tag along... Now the older one has a boyfriend and he might end up with us too... (I sure as hell ain't driving with a 16 year old, present company accepted) In that case 4drs would be better so I can pile the three of them in the back and we're off. I think I'll be seeing them les and less as time goes on. That doesn't happen often enough that I really think I made the wrong decision. Had the TL-S been out at that time, I probably would have gone with it. Overall I think I made the right choice. If I wanted to haul people I would have looked at the Impala...
