Need a second vehicle, My neon is dying!!
I know, this is kinda off topic, so dont hate me for it.
I am going to be needing a second vehicle soon. My 97 neon is not long for this world. I was thinking about something in a small SUV. Like toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, etc.
Anyone have any ideas, which one is a better vehicle. Which gets better mileage? are there any better choices than these?
Sorry for the off topic post, but just lookin' for some help.
Thanks, Matt

The new RAVs are pretty cool lookin', IMHO.
The CR-Vs are nice too. A friend has a CR-V and they are much bigger on the inside than they look. I can easily fit in the backseat with the front seats all the way back and I'm almost 6'2". I think in terms of gas mileage, power, reliability, etc they are both pretty equal. The CR-V may be a little cheaper though.
I still think these two are probably the best choices in that class. The new Escape/Tribute has the V6 option and are getting good reviews, but I'd still be weary of buying a Ford even if it's a Fordza
What's wrong with your Neon?? It's a '97 and it's dying already?? Does it have a lot of miles or are they just that bad?

since you currently only have a CL-P, why don't you use that as your 2nd vehicle for bad weather, and get a CL-S for the summer?

i heard the escape/tribute were having some serious problems...think they already had some re-calls on the cars...something like the steering wheel came loose or off
cr-v is cool...a friend of mine has it...feels like a hopped up civic...good road manners, but i wouldnt take it into any serious off road conditions
personally though, i like the looks of the rav4...looks like a mini bmw x5...dunno how well it drives though...but its toyota and i think still made in japan, so it should be bulletproof
can't go wrong w/ either one...

It depends on what ya gona do with it. On road only or off road? I'd recommend the Jeep Wrangler for price, HD driveline and major fun with the soft-top down.

Think Excursion buddy, think Excursion...
Anyways, the Escape looks nice, but it has recalls straight up the a-hole, same with the Tribute. CR-V is nice, so is the RAV4.

The new RAV4s look much better now. CRV is nice too. As others have said, you probably cant go wrong with them. Dont forget Subaru, the Forester, Impreza, and Legacy are worthy alternatives with excellent AWD and respectable gas mileage. And then there Saturn's SUV...its not bad looking and aint too expensive.

Thank you for the Responses!
I like the looks of the RAV-4 myself, but I wanted to hear some other opinions! I have heard the Bad things about the Ford/Mazda Escape/tribute! I drove one the other day, and I would believe it. The inside materials feel VERY CHEAP! This is compared to the CL, so of course it feels cheap!
I only have about 67000 on the Neon, but it has oil leaks everywhere. Head gasket, sensor this, and cam that! It needs a penzoil I.V.!
Thanks again!

my sister was looking at both of these for herself....I'd certainly agree that the newly redesigned RAV4 looks great, better than the CR-V for sure
whichever you choose, best of luck!

I like the looks of the new RAV4 also... looks more expensive then it is.
I saw a white one at a stop light the other day and had to do a double take cuz I thought it was a X5 at first.
Then I saw a green one in the grocery store and I thought it was an RX.
Nice little SUV.

BTW, get it in a light color like White, Silver, or Gold... as it will make it appear larger then it is.
I also like it in black.
It also comes in the "Spectra Blue Mica" color that used to be available on the Lex GS... that is a sweet color... but lookin at the web site... I dont know that the Rav 4 looks good in it.
I would go for Gold if it was me. Or Silver.

I used to have a '91 Pontiac LeMans... the fuel guage was broken all together... always said the tank was full.
I cant tell you how many times I ran outta gas on the highway... in the middle of rush hour traffic besides. heh.
The AAA service came in handy many times.

My fiance is looking into getting an SUV. She only wants a little one (which is good b/c I told her how much the people on this board hate the big ones!!). Right now we're looking into the Toyota RAV4 and the new Highlander (looks like a mini Landcruiser, which she loves). She also is looking at the Subaru Legacy. I'm trying to get her interested in the new WRX, but she's not too fond of the big head and tailights. Oh well. I'd love to get the MDX, but with our wedding next year and moving out, etc., that's not going to happen (plus, I need my new car ).....

If you're looking for something cheap, how about a 93 or so Crown Victoria or Grand Marquis?
