Need people that know tire sizes well!!!! Need mm specs!

Okay guys, I have the stock 215x50x17 tires right now. I plan on getting a 18x7.5 rim, RH EVO C2s on my ride. Now I know with 225x35 a guy had to trim some of his wheel well in the back areas and lip. I want to know if I can fit 225x40 safely, or 235x40 safely still under there. I plan on getting H&R. How much wider is that tire and taller really? I used miata.net but couldn't tell much. Any help would be great before I decide! I don't want a wheel bent, thats why I want 40 series.

225/40-18 should fit just fine w/ a +45 offset rim.

Well I know this guy with 225x35 had rubbing problems with Eibach Prokit, in the back and he had to trim a few things, now with 235x40 and h&r will I have the rubbing still when I trim the same stuff? I am trying to figure out how much wider or taller that tire is. Thanks.
