Talking Need help on removing stock exhaust system resonator

Hi guys, someone suggested that I remove my exhaust resonator from my car and just attach a straight pipe in its place and it should produce better sound like that of a G35, like a low growl. Is this true? I am not removing the intake resonator, only the exhaust resonator that comes before the actual mufflers. I read somewhere on Azine that this will decrease in HP? I don't really see how if i'm just removing the exhaust resonator which mainly deals with sound dampening. Also, does anyone have an idea of how it'll sound or a clip?

Thanks.

honestly man to tell you the truth i would keep the resonator on and get a set of mufflers instead removing the resonator. It has been known to sound raspy.

now i'm afraid to remove it lol, I don't want my car sounding like this, but I like the initial deep growl of the exhaust. I can't really tell if the cl from the vid that you posted rasps because of the quality, but it sorta sounds like it does.

Not sure why people want a "G35 sound" all the time. Those engines sound stressed and like garbage.

they actually sound pretty good for OEM specs. not these particular G35s, however this stock g35 sounds pretty nice. I think infinite/nissan did a good job with these exhausts

hold, do our cars even have a resonator? All i see from the pic above is a mid muffler...I will go ahead and leave the resonator on if it has one and just delete the mid muffler and replace it with a 2.5" straight pipe, shouldn't be very bad since it's only stage one.

this pic is from another forum, which took the pic from aznbo187 from acurazine lol. I think it's a 3g TL, however.

This is stage 1 on a 3G TL i believe and it sounds nice

Compilation of all stages of exhaust resonator modification.

So far, there are 4 stages of this exhaust mod.

Stage 1.
Least noticeable in exhaust note increase.
Configuration:
Stock exhaust.
Remove mid-muffler. Replace with 2.5" straight pipe. Everything else remains stock.
Cost: Can be anywhere from $30-$60 w/aluminized pipping.

Stage 2.
A tad louder than stage one, a bit more pronounced tone.
Configuration:
Stock exhaust.
Remove mid-muffler. Replace with 2.5" straight pipe.
Remove stock resonator. Replace with Magnaflow resonator part# 10416.
Magnaflow resonator is a 14" long resonator, which dampens and changes the note of the stock exhaust a bit more, thus you get a bit more loudness/tone.
Cost: Magnaflow resonator costs around $60. Install ranges from $60 -$90 w/ aluminized pipping.

Stage 3.
(Tone result TBA)
Stock exhaust.
Remove mid-muffler. Replace with 2.5" straight pipe.
Remove stock resonator. Replace with Dynomax resonator part# WLK-24215.
Dynomax resonator is a 12" long resonator, which is a bit shorter and less dampening than the magnaflow resonator, thus it should give you a bit more loudness/tone than stage 2.
Cost: Dynomax resonator costs around $40. Install ranges from $60 - $90 w/aluminized pipping.

Stage 4.
Loudest setup out of all 3. Has a bit of a rasp, similar to M3 exhaust setup.
Stock exhaust.
Remove Mid-muffler. Replace with a 2.5" straight pipe.
Remove stock resonator. Replace with a 2.5" straight pipe.
Cost: Can be anywhere from $40 - $60.

Without the mid muffler or a resonator on the CL, it sounds raspy and has a tendency to drone on the highway.

"stages" are arbitrary and mean nothing. the CL isn't "stage 1" or whatever you said.

i also agree with the statement about g35's. not sure why people think it sounds good. sounds like a hollow piece of poo

our cars will never sound like a g35 anyways.
the stock mufflers will not sound good with the resonator and mid muffler removed, just sayin, you better just get a whole new exhaust...but you will have the best flow with all of that crap removed...gl

I agree with most people, keep the mid-muffler on and get mufflers or replace the stock mid-muffler with a resonator. People have removed it in the past and have gotten mixed results. Some like it, some think its raspy.

Also please search on this. It's been covered before.
