need great wheel cleaner

The wheels on my maxima where getting dirty so I washed them and noticed that there was a film on parts of it that wont come off. It looks like patches of brown on the wheel . I got some mcguires wheels cleaner but it didnt help at all, anyone have any ideas??

what finish are the rims? painted clear coat, polished, chromed,

I use Mequiars Gold Class wheel cleaner in the red bottle. Soak all four wheels really good with it and then use a big semi stiff sponge and clean your wheels with your car wash liquid. I spray it on the inside of my wheels at every wash to keep the brake dust from "baking on" to the inner wheel part of the rim.

I was afraid of using the brillo pad , cause I didnt want to scratch it up .

No no def. dont use the brillo pad i was only kidding. You could always try some mild cleaning products and then use some strong stuff. Grease lightning might work.
Vince - I almost added "the finish that is" after i put, "it will take that right off."
Never thought of using Hydrochloric acid though. Good idea

I thought this thread was going to be serious and we would discover some miracle wheel cleaner. Currently that all work about the same so I'm presently buying the cheapest or whatever is on deal.

Is there really such a cleaner that will take off all the brake dust and road grime without wiping? I'm talking about the bottle that you buy a case at a time.

ABSOLUTELY NOT. All wheel cleaners are not created equal.
I go to a local car wash supply wholesaler and buy a powder that is orange. It is mixed in a lawn sprayer to make the flourescent green stuff used as wheel / engine cleaner in your local spray car wash.
If you take the whhels off once and wash them thouroughly fornt and back and use this everytime, all you need is high prssure spray from your hose....NOTHING BETTER>>>>>

I should have rephrase that. All the stuff on the retail shelves work just ok, none that much better than others. I wish I could find something that's so outstanding that I would never look twice at the items in Target's auto dept.

I like the "take the wheels off" thing but I could probably only do that about 2-3 times a year. Perhaps that is enough.

WaX them after you clean your car. It'll stop the brake dust from gunking on to the tires. and when you want to clean them you can use a paper towel or just use a brush and wipe it off. It'll come off like butter. I don't use any other wheel cleaner after waxing my rims. and they last for about 3 weeks.

Simple solution......

EAGLE ONE A-2-Z WHEEL CLEANER

NO DOUBT ABOUT IT, THE BEST OUT THERE FOR ANY WHEEL TYPE...Spray on and give it a little help with a quick scrub of the wheel and then hose off.....it ALWAYS works for me

I like the new Meguires shit... in a hot pink bottle.

Works well... but smells like boiling piss.

Whatever it is... it works.

The Eagle one stuff works great too I have it for the Chromes.
