Navi Update and GPS

I put in the new Navi disc last night. I like it, although I'll have to get use to the new voice - it sounds like she should cut back on the cigs...

One neat thing I noticed: on the prior version, while on map mode, if you touched your Acura icon or the satellite icon you would get a readout of your GPS coordinates and they would freeze. Now they don't freeze. Get into the GPS mode and you can watch your GPS location change in real time. Cool.

That's cool. I always wanted it to do that.

I think I'm gonna break down and order this.

Can you tell me the website or phone number you called to order this? What is the version number?

I just noticed another neat thing tonight -- I'm now listed in the database! I decided to enter my name and voila, there it is with my office address.

Awesome.

Sales of the new upgrade disc (2.11b for the 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 models, except the 2003 MDX) have been suspended to correct compatibility with previous versions of the software. Your continued satisfaction is very important to us, and we appreciate your patience while we resolve this problem. If you received an announcement of the new upgrade 2.11b, please disregard that notice.

Starting December 9th, we will take orders on-line for the new upgrade disc 2.11c, which will ship in late January. To place your order by phone, call 1-888-291-4675 between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. Central Standard Time, and select option 1.

Thank you for understanding and allowing us to deliver the highest quality product to you.

This is what you now get when you go to www.acuranavi.com, kinda pissed I did'nt order it, but I guess I'll have to wait till the 9th.....

Ouch!

I just sent off an email to acuranavidiscs@alpine-usa.com asking what this means for us that have already recieved/installed 2.11b. Hopefully they'll give us version c. We'll see what I get back.

From what I am guessing, the 'feature' of 2.11b disabling previous version'ed discs from functioning will be removed/rectified in 2.11c.

2.11c owners will have to let us 2.11b owner's know what you are getting. They've had years to do this right....and they screwed it up. Imagine that.

If they don't fix it to their satisfaction, you might not ever see a 2.11c till next summer.

I just received this reply to my email concerning 2.11c for those of us that already have 2.11b:
You will receive the next disc as soon as it becomes available which is
anticpated by the end of January 2004.
There is no additional sign up or action needed on your part to receive
this disc.

The problem some consumers are experiencing revolve around storing &
retrieval of previous addresses. Some consumers cannot access the
"Previous Address" screen or can access it but there are no addresses
stored there.

Thank you for understanding and allowing us to deliver the highest quality
product to you.
I did notice the Previous Address listing was empty, but I thought I just hadn't refilled it yet.

If you get 2.11c and then turn around and sell your 2.11b on ebay knowing that it is defective, that would be unethical and immoral.

Yes I know.
I think Acura knows this too and would require you to send the old one back to them for the swap.

Besides, Zeroday will hate me even more then he already does if I did this.

If what I heard elsewhere was correct, Acura will be sending current 2.11b owners a "patch disc" that just has the firmware upgrade on it to solve the Previous Address problem. It's a one-time install deal (like a software patch) and then you will continue to use your current 2.11b disc. So no free full disc from Acura.

I just checked my “Previous Destination” list this morning and I have several addresses in there.
I clicked on a few and they went right into the routing process.

So apparently mine is OK.
And I know I got one of the first DVD's off the line.

Address Location

Just wondering if anyone else is having problems with addresses not showing where they are supposed to with the new 2.11b navi disk? Both addresses for work and home are incorrect when I try to map to them or when I am stopped in front of them and look at the GPS coordinates. My house address is 2934 Shady Lane and it shows as 2947, and my office street address is 400 West Morgan, and it shows on the navi system as 1785 West Morgan when I am in the parking lot.
Could someone else check and see if they have any address problems? Thanks.

For me, 2.11b maps correctly with the intended destination address in the correct location and the correct side of the street.

For both 2.05 and 2.11b, if I was to tap the icon for GPS information in front of my house the address number is incorrect but the street is correct. I think this has to do with the way the database is set up when reverse searching an address based on a GPS coordinate. I've never thought of this as a big deal.

Ok, cool, thanks for checking, Slimey. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one to have this problem.
I guess the only time it would be a problem is when you put in an numbered address to somewhere new and the navi takes you to the wrong house or building, but at least you would get in the general vicinity.
My main concern was that the directions for my office are about 3/4ths of a mile away from where it is physically located. When I use the navi to find a new address I can now see myself going "where the hell is this place? the navi says it should be right here!" (LOL)
I'll have to be more careful with this "improved" version I guess.

I know what you're saying, but I've never had the navi take me to the wrong location. Sometimes it chooses a route that I would have not choosen myself, but that's understandable. At least it doesn't get mad at me for not taking a turn that it recomended.

I wish there was a setting where you can have it route you around and not through the bad parts of town. Can you imagine the ramifications if they listed community mean incomes or racial makeup and you were able to adjust the route so that you didn't have to go through the less desireable parts of town?

...I just know someone's going to yell at me for saying that!

i got my new disc today and what do you know my previous dest. button doesn't work. I did call them and they said the same thing that somebody posted above. I should receive a patch disc sometime at the end of January. And they are aware of the problem and will automatically send the disc out to people.

And a big gripe i have is that you can spell walmart 3 different ways and get 3 different listings. I was hoping the update would fix stuff like this.
Wal Mart
Walmart
wal-mart (gives the most stores)
Also now I can't find any movie theater listings, it use to be under advanced tab "Theaters/movie" now there is no listings under the advanced tab. If anybody can figure it out let me know. I've tried Movie, Cinema, motion picture,

After it gives you a route, you are allowed to go back and delete any of the roads that you don't want to travel on. But you knew this already, right?

My Previous Destination is working fine, too.

I'm still going to take the 2.11c upgrade, they're probably fixing something else too since they get the chance. Like may the speed (it definitely is a little bit slower) or the "new" voice....

Ken,

I bought the 2.11b dvd and it is install in my car. I called about the patch dvd and they said they were going to overnight them to the people who bought the 2.11b just after they finishing making the patch. If you would like to use my patch dvd you are more than welcome to!! I will send you pm when it gets in. If you clean out your inbox! It should be here in late January.

By the way the new maps in the Kansas City Area kick some major butt. It was worth the $200 I spend on the dvd. If you would like to see the new maps some time pm me.

Matthew

My inbox is clean now. I didn't know you were going to buy 2.11b. I do have 2.11b and the maps are a major plus, I'm happy. Let me know when you get the patch, there's about 3 of us here in KC who could use it, if you don't mind. Appreciate it.
