is my tire going to explode?
Hey guys... I hit a curb pretty hard today and now ive got a big bubble/buldge in the side of my tire the circumfrence of a golf ball. Is the tire going to explode? Should I try and put the spare on (im kinda scared getting my head that close to the tire). Should I just drive it into a tire shop? Any recommendations on a place to get the stock CL-S tires for a good price in Northern VA?
THANKS!
THANKS!

However, especially on the front, you may be asking for trouble. What happens is the fabric bleeds air into a pocket upon impact, and, if there was a hole in the poly, you would have blown out already since the rubber will not withstand the expansion pressure. However....you just can't trust it. Remember the saying "If you're in doubt...."

Same thing happened to me a few months ago. I must've hit something like a pothole and that caused a bubble to form on the tire. I took it into Merchant's Tire and Auto and tried to get them to replace it under warranty, but no such luck. So I just went over to the Acura dealer here and shelled out $210 for a new one installed. Those 17" Michelin Pilots were a pain to find in stores.

I know this guy with a tricked out IS300..anyways, he had a bubble on one of his tires, drove on it for a few weeks...I dont recommend you do this though, get a new tire ASAP. I had a bubble on one of my tires, I drove on it for at least 3-4 days until I get a knew tire.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will probably leave it on until this weekend and just find a place locally that carries our tire. I wasn't sure what kinda force a tire filled with 32 PSI would explode with. Seeing all those tire bits on the highway from the 18 wheelers that lost a tire had me a little nervous about massive head trama if one exploded when I was down close to it. Of course... this does give me an awefully good excuse to go on the market for 4 new tires and wheels!

I'd worry about the front-end alinement(sp). Replace it right away. You never know when you have the urge to speed and didn't mean to with the bad tire.
As a precaution, I went ahead and ordered 2 tires back in March. I didn't want to go and pay $200+ for stock tires.
Order from tirerack. I think their warehouse is in MD.
