My new best...redemption

After a disappointing visit to the track 2 weeks ago I can once again lift my chin up high. My new personal best time:

13.477 @ 105.78 w/ a 2.175 60'

I ran four 13.5's which also beat my previous best of 13.6 @ 106. Since the last track day I've added the Koni Yellow @ the firmest settings and upped my fuel pressure a bit (it was definitely low last time). I feel better about dumping the 19" Axis Se7ens for the Centerlines now. For the last couple of weeks I was thinking I had spent $$ for nothing (although they do handle TONS better due to the unsprung weight.

I never did hit my previous best MPH. The overall diameter of the 18's is slightly more than the 19's. It must be the gearing??

I got 12 runs in. I lost one race and it was to a motorcycle. Some of the cars I beat:

'04 STI (by at least 6 car lengths - he was running mid 14's all day)
350Z (beat him by a full second)
Elantra GT (I think I actually finished the race b/f he crossed the 1/8 mark - j/k)
2 modded tegs (6-8 cars)
Buick GN (I think it was an '87 - He ran 13.7 last year but 13.9 today)

I wanted to line up against a C6. His best was 13.7 @ 106. DEFINITELY couldn't drive. A new Mustang GT ran 13.7@101. An '04 GTO ran 14.0. Didn't catch the mph.

Good day. Good fun.

Sweet! Congrats on the new best!

I'm so jealous! I won't be at the track for 3 weeks

Yeah. There were 3 other STI's at the track but they left them in the parking lot. Couldn't figure that one out.

I think alot of the STI/Evo owners baby their clutches. Those low 13 sec times are only obtainable if you dump the clutch at 5k. If you roll out from a stop I have a feeling you'll be seeing high 13's all the way up to the bad times this guy was running.

He did get me by about 2 cars off the line - but that lead was short-lived Oh yeah, and I ran a 13.7 against the STI. It would have been much worse if it had been my 13.4 run.

Actually, here's the timeslip info:

Him: 1.939 (60')--14.491 @ 96.06
Me: 2.222(60')--13.748@104.30

I was ahead by the 330' mark.

most people don't know how to drive sti's or evo's. i would have thought it might be a little easier given that you can basically b redlining off launch but maybe there is more to it?

I think alot of those drivers CAN get better times but don't feel like shelling out for a new clutch just for bragging rights in the 1/4. Those cars are made for road courses and auto-x.

Pretty impressive times. What's a stock CL-S auto?

MrSteve, what track do you run at MIR, 75-80 or someplace else?

I run at Capitol most often. It's the closest to me and I've had the best times there. I've been to MIR and Cecil County as well.

congrats!!!

what were the temps???

with a 2.0 60' i think you can go 13.2,

just keep on practicing at the track, 2.0 or even 1.9 60' is managable with your power and wheel/tire setup

CONGRATS

Looks like your still making HP at the end

With a better 60' you can definately carve off a 100th or two.

Remember the larger the total diameter of the tire the higher the mph, but there are things like rpm, final gear ratio and vehicle weight to HP that slows you down getting the right combination and maximizing it is where the fun is

I'll keep trying but that 2.0 60' is very elusive at this point. Maybe I'll drop tire pressure a bit more. I was running them at 30psi front and 40 rear. They just looked so flat even at 30psi. Our cars are so front heavy.

I drop mine 7psi. This normally works out to be around 30psi. But compare that to COLD tire pressure like you are supposed to check it, it is more like 25psi. I normally don't touch the rears.

Why is it that your avatar makes me tingly "down there"?
