My CLS vs. RSX vs. Cop Car

All right, grab your popcorn. And let me tell you how I got so fucking unbelievably lucky tonight.

On my way back home from friend's house about 40 miles away. Ran into a high way stretch that's a clear straight away. Just crusing along at 70. Then I see a light pulling up behind me fast ... then changes lane to my right and pulls alongside. Honks at me, revs, and pulls away from me. I ignored him. He slowed down, honked again, and this time, I got annoyed so so I nodded then dropped gears and let it rip.

80 .. 90.. 100 .. He's slightly behind me. Just as I hit 110 I notice some red and blue sirens far behind closing in fast. I take it down to about 90 then both me and the RSX exits at the next off ramp knowing the cop was after us ... though behind, yet still chasing us.

We come to the traffic light. He goes to the right lane, I go to the left lane. I can see the cop pulling up to us from behind with sirens blazing. Light turns green, we both take off. Cop changes from the middle lane to the right lane and goes after the RSX.

Who hoooo, I ain't doing that shit again anytime soon (or taking that same way back for the next couple of weeks).

You are so lucky!! Like Lippstuh said, he probably went after the RSX cuz he assume a luxury coupe will not have anything to do with this.

anyone else find it funny is you guys waited for the light to turn green...

I probably woulda just pulled over - i was in a pursuit twice (once when i was 15 and driving without a license - dont know what i was thinking) and the other was when i was a passenger... hard to beleive but my brother, myself and two friends lost a cop through back roads off an exit. We were lost in his field of vision for maybe a second or two, we turned left and he turned right

however, he never had his lights on for some reason, so maye technically it wasnt a pursuit

Learn & don't do that again. That's just dumb. The fact the RSX did that to egg you on & you took the bait is nuts.

I had a few cars try that crap with me. I just braked to the speed limit. Let the idiot go.

yeah if your breaking the law ilegally stret racing and running from a cop, why would you stop at a red light?

Its like on those high speed chase videos when a guy is trying to out run the cops and he still uses his turn signals when going around a turn.

lol let me elaborate a little bit more.

We both stopped at the red light because technically, the cop was far enough that he could've been going after something/someone else - so on my side, I wanted plausible deniability. After all, speeding is easy to fight, but running through a red-light with a cop coming up after you is stupid. No point in running and he was close enough that if one of us had ran the light, he would've gone after the 1st one that ran it for the obvious infraction instead of a speeding ticket.

And luckily, the light turned green before he pulled up close enough to use the loud speakers, so we both took off and I saw the red blue sirens turn right and go after RSX. I'm pretty sure he pulled over.

LIke I said, red light infraction is obvious, but speeding I can fight easily.

somewhat offtopic... if u race from a dig.... but cut off at/near speed limit (we all go over... freeway speeds are usualy 70-82mph instead of 65 by law)... is that illegal (wreckless driving?)

of course you won't be racing from a dig on the freeway but just hypothetically

im not proud of it, but ive been to driving school 3 times, and one thing i found interesting is that a cop can indeed pull you over for any unneccessary extreme driving moves...if you burn rubber off a just-turned green light and then drive up to 35 when the speed limit is 40 say, they can pull you over, but its rare for a cop to actually do.

so yes its possible, but i dont it would ever happen if you dont go faster than speed limit, but if cop sees you in act, hell obviously think youll go faster before you get there and stop at that speed.

sorry to get off topic, you lucky son of a bitch! haha

yeah, 2 4 hour and an 8 hour. im not proud of it as i said:

first: quota time, down my street. i was going 30, speedlimit was 25. i saw cop too, he was gay...

second: 4th of july, driving down pitch black skokie lagoon going 45 in a 45 zone. well it changes to residential section [35zone], im still going 45, cop gets me, which i didnt see parked b/c no street lights

third ticket: going 60 down 35zone 4 lane street, caught red handed...

i did the classes to get it off my record. sucks right? yep. they love pulling over teens. oh and on ticket #1 above, cop asked me twice if i was the true owner of the car...jealous bastard.

If you're not too savvy with rights and laws, then YES.

If you read my one post about "You're being pulled over. Now what?" or are savvy at knowing your rights, laws, and how to use them ... then NO, it's not illegal.

Technically and legally, if you were at a red light with a police car next to you, you can pull away from him granted that:

All you're doing is speeding and not past or near the limit.
Not changing lanes or cutting people off
Not in school zones/ otherwise crowded areas
Going in a straight line

Even if the police officer pulled you over, legally, he can't cite you for speeding. The only thing that even has the remotest of possibilities of citing you are either noise pollution, street racing, or wreckless driving, all of which you can fight in court with some easy defenses IN THIS CASE.

Not really recommend you test it, but as you said, hypothetically speaking, it's not illegal to speed UP TO a speed limit granted you're not doing the above listed.

Pretty lucky.

Same thing happened with me and my friend. Though, he was driving his pickup, haha. I was just toying with him and a cop came over the bend on the other side of the HW. We both exited at the next exit. My friend cut in front of me after I braked when I saw the cop. Here's the weird part...we're getting ready to take a left off of the exit ramp. My friend goes before me, and then it's my turn to go. I didn't notice the cop pull right next to me. I look over, he looks at me, turns on his lights, and goes and gets my friend. My heart was exploding in my chest. Got him for 27 over, haha.

Oh well, 2 months later I got the EXACT same citation in the EXACT same place. Karma is a bitch.

What was the Cop driving that he was pulling on you at 110 and going full throttle?

Certainly wasn't a Crown Vic.......

Because one of the three could happen:

A. You T-bone a car traveling through the green light and get a chance to see how great your front airbags work.

B. A car traveling through the green light T-bones you and you get to see how great your side airbags work.

C. The cop instantly locks on YOU no matter what because you're definately more of a risk than the other guy that at least stopped at the red light.

Either way you're either seriously injured or dead or you've seriously injured or killed someone else. At the very least you would definately get a wreckless driving, running red light, and evading police officer ticket[s], which means you would never see your drivers license again.
