My Car Detail *pics*

got my baby detailed last Thurs at Detailing Dynamics in Port Washington...key marks are gone...most scratches/swirlies have vanished also...paint depth is now 3mm ...procedure was 3-stage compound (1st a medium/harsh abrasive, 2nd a mild abrasive, 3rd an ultrafine abrasive/polish), then used this targone stuff to remove any residue of just about anything, and ZFX (cept Matt put on 5 coats of ZFX!!! but apparently, the paint soaked it up real good)...o, get this, after 2 coats of Z5ZFX with the ZFX bottle half-full, he still had 1/4 bottle still there!!!...and after 3 coats of Z2ZFX with the ZFX bottle totally full, he still had half the bottle full!!!...talk about thin layers

Matt ZFX'ed the wheels, refinished the chrome exhaust tips, and did some interior clean-up

if anyone is looking to have some detail work done and is in the Long Island area, i recommend u check this place out...keep in mind Matt mainly concentrates on Porsche's, MB, BMW, Lotus, etc and has numerous cars in show-car competitions, plus he is a contribution editor for the MB, BMW, Porsche, and Lamborghini Car Clubs of America, so 1, he knows his sh!t, and 2, he BETTER do good work, or else his client-base goes down the tubes

Note: these pics r indoors since it was raining Thurs - Sunday evenings :'(, so the pics r not that great...

the 225's r great compared to stock...stock tires just don't cut it with this car unfortunately...i chose the Pilot Sport A/S's cuz i felt where i am here in NY there's a good chance i'll compete with snow, and a 3-season tire is tough to maneuver in snow...i did NOT go with a 235-series tire b/c the way the 225 offsets the speedo/odo, it's prob as close to realistic mileage/speed as u can get...plus, even with the 225-series tire, i still get a little rubbing if u can believe that!! so all in all, im glad i got these tires and recommend them...it's just u gotta get past the $$$ first

Rubbing with 225, wow I am surprised. I just got an 03 and I've been reading all the posts about tire plus sizing. I still can't believe so many people put 235 and 245s on their CLs. The CL has a weight problem, yes it's overweight. So, the factory 215 Pilots are selected because of their high weight handling ability.

So, you think feel a difference going from a 215 to a 225 or did your car come with something other than the Pilots?

there is a difference...u'll feel it...center of gravity is a little more, which helps...grip in tight turns isn't compromised nearly as much...and yes, my baby came with the same stock rubber everyone else's got

well i actually convinced Matt to use Zaino...he typically uses a personal blend of 3M Perfect-It/Finese-It products, but i insisted on using Z since i was gonna use it in the future...he has worked with Z in the past but had poor results...i asked if we could use mine as sortof a test project...he was pleasantly surprised at the outcome...now will he stock Z in his shop?? prob not...what he would like to do first is gather a bunch of hoods from 1 car make and test his stuff against Z, Mother's, some mixtures detailing friends in CA send him, etc. in as controlled an experiment as possible

Center of gravity is higher which hurts not helps. 225s are higher than 215s.

It's obviously not the same tire. But i'll put my pilot sport a/s against the stock tires any day of the week.

CL-s's come with Pilots from the factory. So, other than 215 to 225, what's different?

What the hell is wrong with the back of that lotus. Looks like someone has Ferrari envy. Scooter, find that guy and beat him with one of your golf clubs.

EDIT: Nevermind. I guess that's Lotus's new Esprit ass. Looks cheap as hell. The designer of that cheesy 'ass update' does need a beating though.

Sccoter did your detail cost anymore than a standard detail or is $275 the regular price?

good question...he charged me $220 for everything, which was a little less than standard rates b/c he used my Zaino as part of the detail work...so i made up the differences with his tip...i'd say around $250 is in the ballpark for full exterior detail using all his products, not including tip

Is that a crack in your trunk lid where the big hole is on the left side? What's that dark line?

Also, it looks great - you shoulda done that to win the PAA Zain-off.

hehe the line is really a string...it's there so that the connecting wires won't get lost inside the trunk deck...it's tied to the connecting wires inside the main part of the car...there isn't much slack the spoiler wire has...u can see the wire a little in the spoiler pic on the 1st page

Car looks GREAT man. Glad to see you’re back in shape.

Shawn S

PS…. You can afford a nice detailing job like that, but still need to host your photos at CLUBRSX.
That’s just SAD man. .........................
