My car almost died.....

So I'm driving down the highway, moving in and out of traffic pretty quickly. Of course I'm passing everyone Then we come to the end of the highway where there is a stoplight. It turns red as I'm approaching it so I have to slow down fairly quickly.

So I hit my brakes - not hard, but harder than a normal stop at a red light - and I slow from about 70mph to 0 pretty fast. It was one of those stops that was would have been more uncomfortable had we not been in my CL-S, just enough to make you lean forward in your seat a little bit. And once I came to a stop the sputterred It did one of those things like I was running out of gas and it was about to die (I had 3/4 of a tank). It only did it for a second, and it didn't shake the car hard or anything. I didn't really feel like it was going to die. It was just enough to make you go, hmmmmmm

So anyone know what might cause this? I'm trying to re-create the incident but it doesn't seem to happen with any regularity.

I know exactley what you're talking about. It has happened to many people on the board. I think it has something to do with a sticky or bad idle air control valve or sensor.

my GUESS...

im not an expert but this is wat im thinking..

while u were stopping... the gas in ur fuel tank jumped forward.. and i think (my GUESS is here) the fuel is taken from the back of the tank or maybe middle bottom.. but if theres no fuel there to suck..
mmm causing/helping the cut of fuel to the engine..

thats my guess.. or it could be wat davo-cls said..

hope this helps!

I routinely get this same problem on fast decelerations to a stop. Car almost stalls, but doesn't. That's interesting about the low gas idea, cuz I'm almost always running around with the low fuel light on

I had the same problem... Primary O2 sensor died afterwards. Replaced sensor, and it went away. Now it's doing it again, and it's a matter of time before the sensor dies again.

My car's just running too rich, I think. I'm going to get the V-AFC II dynotuned over this winter. Hopefully that'll fix the problem.

Good luck with yours, too.

By the way, the fuel thing makes somewhat logical sense, but it takes longer than that to deprive the fuel pump of fuel. And very highly unlikely if you had 3/4 of a tank.

I have noticed once in a while when coming to a hard stop after driving at freeway speeds. Car doesn't die but the RPM drops way down momentarily.

IAC valve most likely, that is what controlsl your idle and the computer has a hard time adjusting to that change that quickly
