My average speed: 85

I've been tracking my average speed in my CLS over the past 5-6 months. How fast does everyone go on the average (mind you my 85mph figure comes from the fact that 90% of the time I'm on major highways.

Unfortunately this car likes the 80 - 100 mph range IMO and unfortunately my leadfoot likes to keep it there.

I rarely see the open Interstates so my higher speed driving is on uban/suburban freeways. This car is way too comfortable at 80 for its own good.

Hmmmm 80 is a nominal cruise speed. When the fawkers here decide to go 65MPH in the fast lane, I make sure to pass at a *brisk* speed of 100

Wow, you must be doing like 25 mph for two minutes at stop lights to keep that average up to 85. :P

80 is like walking when you're on the highway, as my 82 in a 65 speeding ticket indicates...courtesy of Alabama HP.

Just did the Tulsa, OK, to Jacksonville, FL move. Even fully loaded with crap, CLS is a monster on the highway....80 = 55.

70-75 MPH...80 if I'm feeling particularly daring (this is cruising speed mind you).

I just dont want to give the cops ANY excuse to pull me over. They're a bitch in SoCal now

Most the side roads here are 3 lane each way 45mph that I do between 55-70 on usually
Then the highways that are 65 I would say I stay between 85-100
And the two that are 75mph highways I usually just stay at 100-110mph.

Doing 75 in 55 I feel I am stretching my luck with cops.

However, I do see people doing 90-100 in a 55 . I try to follow at 85 they keep disappearing in front of me...

Just imagine what would be the tics at 100 in 55! what happens to the license and insurance, I really do not want to know

However, as someone mentioned doing 80 in CLS just like 55, sweet and smooth.... RPM at 2200... CLS is a true cruiser...

I usually cruise at 80MPH if conditions permit. However, after a few miles of 80MPH I find myself creeping past 85 and upwards of 90MPH in this car. It's just way too easy and the car loves being at that speed.

Sure that shouldn't say 100 kph instead of mph? You'd never get away with doing 160 for a period of time on the 400 except in the middle of the night, and then you've still got the OPP to contend with.

Gas mileage?

Curious. Has anyone measured their gas mileage at speeds like 80 - 85?

I was doing about 10MPH over the limit and thought I was safe. Tehn I got stopped by one of our Garden State's finest. He saw the radar detector and started to take out his pad. He said he always writes tickets when he sees radar detectors. I explained to him that it was off and had been off. He checked that I wasn't lying to him (I wasn't) and he put the pad away and told me to slow down. Ever since then, 5MPH over and no more. It's been over 10 years since I got a ticket and that was in SoCal where I got a Masters Degree in Traffic School. Gonna cool the speeding for more than one reason.

80-90 is my average on 580 West or East in Northern California. BTW, so is most on that highway with me ! It's not like I'm driving to hell passing everyone doing tired 55 or 65. Kinda like "go with the flow"......

To really average 85mph over the last 6 months you would have to live next to an onramp for the autobahn.

Damn tree hugger!

I burn gasoline like everyone else by doing 80mph. This is like the minimum on the open road for me, mind you I am used to crosss country treks coming from scjhool and stuff like that. A 2000 mile road trip is the norm, so the road and the car loves me. Besides, 80-100mph gets me there quicker!

My average speed is probably 30mph. All I do is city driving usually. When I'm on the highway (rarely) it's only for a short period (10 miles at most) and I usually average about 70-75. every now and then I'll hit 80+ but I keep it down a bit most times.

My speed = speed limit * 1.3

I try to keep my speed to about 30% above the speed limit. Very scientific, I know.

25 --> 35
35 --> 45
65 --> 85
