My 326,000 mile Acura CL-S Story
Hey Aziners. First time poster here, go easy on me lol. Even though some may think me purchasing a 280,000 car is crazy ( in which, it really is), I acquired my 01 CL-S at a very decent price. My first Acura. It was very well maintained with dealer records and drove like a dream. But man, what a journey these 8 months have been. After I purchased the car I was terrified of it , didn't even turn the radio on because I was listening for the slightest peep. I've had a few problems in the beginning such as fuel pump relay problem (fixed thanks to A-zine), minor suspension work (outer tie-rods) , front rotors warping, clicking evap canister that I thought were noisy valves but nothing to put me off. Then things start to get interesting. The cv axle had to be replaced, then the right wheel bearing. I thought no biggie, according to other users, CL's othen have problems with those parts. 30,000 miles go by , ( I commute 80 miles a day) I get into my very first accident. Side swiped by a pastor . No major damage , she was fine. After I got my car back however , my passenger side mirror would go all the down and click like crazy whenever I pressed unlock on the key fob . Came right on A-zine and fixed it by resetting the memory settings. All was well , for at least a month.. I was surprised with a coolant leak. Me being lazy , I didn't get it fixed, jus kept putting coolant in it , well unfortunately, my timing belt broke which caused ..... you guessed it ----> bent valves . So me being in love with the car so much , I found an warranted engine with 107,000 miles from a reputable company here in Mi for $380 !!!! Had my mechanic drop it in , and man I thought my old engine was healthy! It performed so effortlessly and was louder in a good way like it had a CAI (turned out to be my air box not sealed all the way, once again thanks to A-zine.) The engine performed like new , so I wanted my trans to do the same thing. I searched A-zine forums for some things I can do and I came across replacing the pressure sensors and doing a 3X3. I did both and it was a night and day change. At 326,000 this Cl probably had about 10 transmissions in its lifetime, but this one is doing fine for now. My CL-S is running fine now, the rotor is starting to warp again, the back deck rattles like crazy, but otherwise it does not show 300,000 miles worth of wear. I love my CL-S , nicknamed Lucy Lui Thanks you guys for saving me from pulling my hair out.

Back to a MT!
Wow, congrats! I changed to Racing Brake rotors and OEM pads and has been good for a while now, they seem to resist fading better than stock rotor (there are a few other brands that seem to hold up). My rear package tray would vibrate against the rear window. I put two really small pieces of felt (one on each side) between them. One side of the felt had adhesive, seemed to fix the buzzing from back there. Good Luck!

i still have yet to use pads that don't eat the rotor. ebc, adaptive one, and stoptech pads... ALL are too hard and slowly wear way at the thickness of the rotor :-(
which is a bitch cause i have NEVER changed just the pads... it's always the rotor that goes before the pads wear down enough that they need replacing. actually i might have done just the rear pads ONCE..?? cannot remember tho lol

My wife's 98 CL isn't too far behind. Aside from a transmission rebuild and general maintainence, the car has been hassle free and awkwardly gives no problems. This car is what convinced me to never buy another car other than Acura again! We plan on making this a million mile car.

Im new to the forums as an actual member as well. But over the course of a year from me owning my Acura CL type S I have come to Acurazine for numerous problems and found solutions to fixing them. So like you I am grateful to have found this site. But back to the topic at hand I am taking a sigh of relief knowing that you got that many miles out of your engine. I'm currently at 149K on mine which is still like a new engine on an Acura.

Thanks you guys. sorry for the double post , I forgot to post a picture but that didnt turn out too well lol. Many say I was brave for buying this car , but when I purchased it , nothing else came close to this car in performance, comfort and amenities for the price I paid for it. I would have purchased a well maintained Acura with 300k rather than a Pontiac grand prix gtp that was beat to hell. lol
