Mugen Fan Switch Does Not Fit

Yep, the title says it all. The electrical connector is the same size but the threads are different. Our stock fan switch has larger threads and has a flat surface. The Mugen has obviously smaller threads but has an extended probe also.

I'm not giving up yet though, I'll try to determine what the thread size is and purchase an adapter. I'll let you know how this turns out...

keep us updated. I did the Redline Water Wetter and 1.3 Mugen radiator cap, but was interested in the outcome of your fan switch and thermostat modification.

Also would be interested on the Denso plugs you installed. Notice and improvements over and above the old plugs?

This was dicussed a while back about runnign a lower thermostat. In addition to a lower T-Stat the fans need to turn on sooner which is what this swtch was for. The whole idea was to have the engine running about 20 degrees cooler constantly.

As shown with the (I beleive it was them) TOV video oc a CL-S6 dyno, they loast about 6 hp with the engine coolant over 200 F.

No real difference with the plugs except I am no longer getting DTCs set because of misfires...

I did just match up the Mugen threads and they appear to be abotu 3/8 Inch. Now I need to find out what the stock thread is and find/make an adapter fitting.

There might be a simpler solution now. I went back to King Motorsports website and noticed that there are two switches shown for the Accord and the one pictured looks like our stock one:

I'll call them Monday and go over this aspect. But it may turn out that they sent me the wrong one or there is another that fits fine.

I'll keep my fingers crossed though as metric (which I am sure it is metric) adapters aren't easy to come by...

Also, the T-Stat part number is 19301-XGMR-000 so there still may be hope.

Are you serious (you went with Denso Iridiums)? (I can't tell with that big grin at the end).

DTC with stock platinums (Densos or NGKs)?

Were you getting DTCs before the p/p job?

If all true, what did the stock plugs look like and where the DTC misfire codes related to just one or two cylinders?

Were the factory plugs put back in from the exact cylinder from whence they came?

Indexing.... ? .... ?

There did seem to be some confusion about part #s when I called.

BTW, do you think that there might be a difference from 2001 to 2003? (You mentioned that the 2003 manual only had one thermo-switch and my 2001 book shows 3 sensors total.)

Do you think they mislabeled the part and/or what part # did they send you?

Thanks for pioneering this!

I did swap out the stock plugs with DENSO Iridiums but in all honesty I don't think it was nessesary as the codes had pretty much gone away. But just for peace of mind I swapped them anyway.

The stock plugs actually appeared to be NGK Iridium, IZFR6K.

No, I didn't get the codes prior to doing the polishing but nor did I get them right after. It wasn't until I filled up at a station downtown that they started. Once I re-filled at my local station and ran a bottle of Techron through it that the codes went away. So I am chalking it up to bad fuel as it seems the logical explanantion. But that sure did worry me a bit that the polishing some how iwas causing the DTCs.

The codes were the P0300 random misfires along with individual codes, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0306.

It looks like the primary, Fan Switch A, would be the same for all years. It fits in the thermostat housing for all years.

I'm not sure what might have happen, whether they sent the wrong part or if it was just the incorrect unit for the car. I am just hoping that this is one which fits fine...

I spoke to Bob at King Motorsports just a minute ago and we discussed the Fan Switch issue. He grabbed both units they sell and indicated that the other one does have a flat front and has slightly larger threads. So it appears the other one they sell will fit.

I'll have it by Thursday and will again post the results.

BTW, I did receive the correct one. The one I got is for the Accord and Prelude. The other unit, which looks like it will be the correct one, is for the B series motors.

It's odd that the threads/side etc. is common to the B-series motors (if that is the case). I would suspect more commonality with the H-series blocks (H22A, H23A etc.) If anything... having more in common with the B-series motors is a good thing. There are oodles of stuff out for these babies.
