Moutain roads! RWDLOL
My mom was raised in the VA moutains. Curvy country roads that drivers everywhere long for! Today we were coming back down that road when a 98-00 Trans Am pulls up behind me. I already had VSA off in ss. I shifted from 3 to 2 at 50 and took off he caught up quick but at the first turn he lost four car lengths. After the next two or three turns he quite trying to catch me... At ther end I stoped and waited for a couple of minutes to tell my cousin good race! Yeah he'd beat me in a str8 line ....but it sure was nice not to worry about my rear end sliding off a moutain!

It's the live axle that's killing him. Its high unsprung mass and relative inconsistency in locating the rear wheels makes the car a real handful on the varied tarmac of mountain roads.
Given a decent driver, you might be surprised that ponycars can be a real force to be reckoned with on a glass-smooth racetrack.

Well, this gets back into the drag racer vs. all-around car. The WRX and driver I ran into was the first person who wasn't sliding all over the road...
So, bring on the IS300 and 330Ci in my hills. I know every turn, bump, and camber change, so I get to "cheat!"

Haha, I see you're in SoCal too. Just this weekend I did a little fun run with some IS300 and Celica guys. (No, the intention wasn't an all-Toyota event. It just turned out that way) We did Glendora Ridge Road, Glendora Mountain Road, East Fork Road, and San Gabriel Canyon Road up to the lookout.
Anyways, I had a blast running with a Celica GT-S manual w/exhaust, intake, S-AFC, and springs. He was certainly faster in the straights, and his car did better on sweepers (it certainly felt like my stock susp. was going into positive camber), but it wasn't enough to walk, since I would close on every small-radius turn. But the point was that irrespective of the Celica's FWD and lack of LSD, it was certainly holding its own on the mountains. Just goes to show that theoretical advantages can be nullified. (But most of the time with some compromise, which in his case meant ride quality and tire wear.) Anyways it was a blast and it was just refeshing to find somebody who knew how to drive like they meant it!
Oh, here's a link to my entire documentation of the drive (pics, itinerary, storyline) if you're bored:
