Montreal GP Weekend Coming!!

It's the annual trip to Montreal (since 89) for the GP this week Thurs, as usual, I can't wait. There's something about engines screaming to 18500 rpms that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end dat's fer sure. As ever, we are pulling for JV (who doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell). But at least his car is going to be completely redone (new aerodynamics) and a different iteration Honda engine as well. Course, Eddie Jordan's cars will have the same engine. I guess I'll root for JPM too. Anyone else goin?

For two sets of tix in the gold grandstands across from the pits (wife's choice this year, usually we sit in the hairpin) it'll set you back approx two sets of comptech springs!! ($600) :

There's tons of parking lots and indoor parkings where you can park your car... That's if you're staying in the downtown area, if you're anywhere else, parking shouldn't be a problem.

Yes, we should definately have some sort of meet...

When would be a good time for you guys?

General admission means you get in and find a seat usually on the lawn or somewhere that there isn't a grandstand. Grandstands are more expensive cause you get to sit, and they are usually in better viewing areas. Paddock passes allow you to roam where the cars are being set up for qualifying and racing. I highly recommend you do this, and bring your camera. By the way, which track were you talking about ?

There is no paddock pass in F1, it's called the Paddock Club and it costs 2995 /person. It also gets you a seat on top of the garages as well as close circuit tv and catered lunch. the closest I got to this for a F1 race was at the debut race at Indy. We ended up in the Mobil1 Suite. General admission for the Montreal race looks like it has to suck. There are places alongside the fence that are blocked from view so they put you in places where everyone else wants to be too. At the hairpin, there's gotta be a 1000 people jammed into this relatively small spot every year on a dirty hillside. And, if you get up, you probably lose your seat. If you can scalp a ticket to seat in the hairpin, do it. You get a great view of the cars coming down, turning, and exiting, plus you don't really need ear plugs.

To you guys who want to set a meet, you should go for it! Unfortunately I won't have my car (wife's 330 instead), so, I'd look a bit foolish hangin' in an Orange Julius w/ no wheels to brag about!!

It's a CART race at Laguna, the easiest way to tell is just remember the IRL guys don't turn right (just ovals anti-clockwise). Gen admission w/ paddock means you get to go through the garages but you don't get in the pits. They are in two separate places. So you get to watch them set up the cars and occasionally, the driver will standing around pretending like he knows what is going on. Usually they are no where in sight, or come out of team transporter, jump on a moped/minibike/bike and fly through the crowd so you can't get autographs. If you really wanna see a race, buy a superphoto pass. That gets you ANYWHERE you want to go (next to the track f'rinstance). Hope this helps and enjoy the race.
