Monday morning blues

On my way into work this morning my tranny started slipping and I got this pretty light show on the dash. F*CK!!! So, what's the best way of handling the dealership? Should I tell them that I know it's the tranny and I know about the warranty or should I play it cool and see what they tell me?

That easy, huh? Will I have to pay for the rental?

Exactly what cltypeSLOW said. It may be a bit more that 3 days. They took a week on mine. But I think that was because they had to replace the motor mounts for mine too. I had the same set of lights come on, but at about 50 to 55 mph.

Kinda weird that you got the light show.
I never had any lights show up on mine and our transmissions are controlled electronically.
Maybe there is an electrical issue. Bring it in and tell them that the tranny was slipping and the lights came on.

I am on my third tranny and never got any lights. The only CEL I ever got was last week when I had the SS mode switch disassembled to check out how it works. I cleared it with by taking off the battery cable and waiting a minute and it hasn't came back since.

I dropped mine off on Monday and picked it up on Wednesday the first time it was replaced.
It was two days for me and they replaced my tranny, PCM (for tranny), torque converter and front motor mount.

damn. the infamous Christmas tree gauge cluster. Ross is right. just tell them it may be your tranny. i remember the last time it happened to me, i could kinda drive it a little. i went to Autozone down the street from the dealer and scanned it to verify.

i remember that for about two months before this, second gear would hesitate from shifting into third when in D5.

The only signs I had of this happening was literally this morning. Never had any issues with the tranny prior to this morning. All the sudden I could tell it wasn't shifting crisply like usual, kind of hesitating, then all the sudden it was shifting way too hard. The lights came on when I got onto the highway doing around 50 mph and stayed on and when I gave it a little gas it would shift down but then the RPMs would shoot up. I got to work, turned the car off, then turned it back on and the VSA and "!" light went off but the CEL stayed on. I'm going to call Scottsdale Acura this afternoon and see when I can drop it off. I just hope they give me a decent Acura rental from this place verses the Cobalt from Peoria Acura.

I had a Chevy POS. I drove it home, used it to jump start my old Maxima, and left it there for a week.

I had that same thing happen to me 3 times. And every time it’s the same f%$@ing thing. I stopped my car turned the engine off and re started. 2 of the 3 lights went away, only check engine light staid on. I went to the dealer and the first time the computer shoed "random misfire" second time "misfire cylinder one" and third time "misfire" again. So I am not to sure if it’s a trany. It could just be "misfire"

As stated before, Acura pays for the rental.

BUT... If you elect to accept the insurance from the rental company, you have to pay for that. I got billed $90 and wasn't sure why, I told the bitch I had my own insurance and she still selected it... Well, my dumb ass didn't read anything and signed where she told me to and had to pay...

I just took it out for lunch and now only the CEL is on and the car seems to be shifting okay. WFT? I have an appointment to have it checked out tomorrow at Acura of Scottsdale. Hmm, wonder if I it's the same thing going on with mine. Difference is I know it wasn't shifting right this morning because I could feel it hesitating to shift and downshift and then the lights came on. Weird.

Well, "bump" for my own thread, I just got the call from the dealership, my tranny is kaput. Now all I have to do is drive my Ford Taurus Hertz rental car back to them tomorrow and they're going to place me into an Acura. Apparently they have to actually find a major problem with the car before they put you into an Acura loaner now-a-days. Oh well, not complaining, getting a new (or rebuilt, what ever) transmission and an Acura loaner. Glad they didn't tell me it was just a misfire. Acudavecls, I'd follow up on yours maybe with another dealership because it sure sounds like you had the same experience as me and mine was diagnosed as an internal transmision failure, though only the CEL was on and the car seemed to be shifting fine after the light show.

sorry to hear about your dead tranny.

a couple of things you want to make sure:

1. ask for a tranny replacement vs. a re-build (not really sure if it's better, cause it'll probably just break anyway, but it's nice to have peace of mind).
2. try to get into a loaner =P. I got into a TSX for a whole week during my tranny replacement.

Thanks, guys. Yeah, kind of shitty, but at least it's getting replaced and I'll be riding in an Acura loaner instead of a Chevy or Ford. I'll see what they say about the replacement vs. re-build. From what I gathered they said they're replacing the tranny, so I'm assuming that means replace not rebuild. I'm going there tomorrow morning so I guess I'll find out then.

The ironic thing about this is I just put my Acurazine.com stickers on my side windows on Sunday and the next day the tranny bites the dust and I start running different new car choices through my head.

I think in the rebuild they just slap a heftier jet on 3rd gear or some such non sense. Definitely good to make sure it was completly replaced. I just had my tranny replaced about a month ago, this is number 3@92k miles. I wasn't sure of my VSA/CEL lights prior to my tranny showing noticable signs. I thought the lights were coming on because of the VTEC controller, lol. Ever notice an early rev limiter kicking in also? Like 5500...Sorry for this tragedy, but it was expected.

On that note, has anyone heard back about the suppoed 109k settlement of late december?

Yeah I'm just happy it happened now and not 30k miles down the road when I'm out of the extended warranty. Sooooo... is that true, none of the new replacement trannys have had any failures? What's the deal with people having 2 and 3 trannys?

I'm on number three, but the second tranny had a bad differential when they replaced it, so it wasn't the usual gear 'fuckeruperage' that they usually have...

When I asked them, they told me they only put in rebuilt trannys...
Guess that's what you will get as well. Not sure

LOL....This same thing happened to me last week, my car was at 91k and same lights turned on. I drove around with it for a couple days until it couldnt even shift to 3rd gear. I gave Acura a call and ask them about the 100k extended warranty and they said all CLS have it so i made an apointment and i should be getting it back in a couple days. Hopefully things turn out the same for you!

Just got the news that they're putting a rebuilt tranny in with all the correct jets, etc. They gave me an 07 TL as the loaner. Nice car but doesn't have nearly the pull as my CL-S. The steering is completley different, too. Have to admit the interior lighting is way better in the TL though. They told me the middle of next week is when my car should be done.

I grabbed my digital camera out of the console just for that reason, never know when people have access to your stuff. I didn't ask for a loaner either, after they determined it was the tranny, they offered me one. I gladly accepted.

You most likely wouldn't have been given a loaner. I was 20 when my transmission was replaced. They put me in a rental that I had to pay for. I wasn't happy about that one. Shitty part is, I had them talked into giving me the 6speed TSX loaner they had. Then they looked at my license, and were like "Uh uhhhhh. You're not old enough"

i got a TSX loaner during my last tranny ordeal. but, they were playing stupid so i had to ask for it.

I got my girl back tonight and I am so glad to have her back. At first I didn't feel a difference, but I just went out to get some food and I gave her a little more throttle and I totally agree, the tranny is 100x smoother down shifting but no jerkiness on mine, even 30-40 mph. I noticed that it doesn't want to shift into 5th going under 40 like it used to, which is how I want it. I'm totally happy with it and like you want to keep the car now. I swear it feels more responsive and quicker. Then again the TL I was driving did not impress me and my CL feels so much faster. Good times!!!

Glad to hear you got your car back and its good to go man.

Welcome to Tranny # 2. I think mine might be close to its breaking point, as it shutters at times in the 40-50 mph range.

Mine shuddered at 50k miles in the 25mph range. Changed the trans fluid and it ran smooth again all the way til I sold it with 77k, so you might wanna try that.

The shuddering is a scary feeling
