I'm not sure on this, but I don't think the MDX cams are as high duration as the type S cams meaning less horsepower.

I would have to agree, the MDX cams are probably be designed for better mid range torque in mind. They would probably make the top end suffer noticeably.

I thought you meant the MDX's new back-up cam.

Nope, the NSX is DOHC so there is one for the intake valves and one for the exhaust valve. Our SOHC has to control both sets of valves.

i was affraid of that...im thinking of seeing what would happen if i stayed on the high rpm side of my cam all the time...i know logic would say i would loose low end...but its worth a try...theres a big serge when i hit 5500...im thinking this 3.5 looking for more air?....any way scalbert of making it stay on ,the high rpm side...with out an s afc???its vacuum driven isnt it?

The MDX cam doesn't have as high a lift creating more mid range torque for pulling heavier loads because it's a truck. This also keeps the idle smooth as well.

It is controlled by the ECU. It sends a signal to open a solenoid which allows oil to flow into the rocker arm rails. There is also a pressure switch to verify the oil filled the rails. You could make a small circuit which could activate the solenoid and would would have to fool the pressure switch signal.

But there are two problems with this concept. First is that you also need to adjust fuel and timing accordingly for the high lobe. The other is that you don't want to run the high lift lobe down low, it would hurt power not to mention the idle would be crappy.

VTEC actuation

As long as there is oil-pressure you can actuate the VTEC solenoid manually. We used to do this on the Frankenstein motors of yesteryear. Integra LS block with a Integra GS-R head - essentially a larger-displacement GS-R motor running carbs.

On my civic I had a SPOON VTEC-controller which allowed me to set the VTEC actuation from 1500rpm to 7500rpm.
