My numbers sucks even with CAI and I was unable to control wheel spin at lunch.

I even lost for a CIVIC Si.

I was chriping, peeling, smoking, hopping you name it ... that sucks last year I did better... The only good thing is Trap speed is higher than last year.

CLS run with empty trunk and no donut wheel too !

here are my 3 runs:
1) Run1: 8:06 PM, D3 VSA off, no brake torque ( Peeling, Torque Steering ):

R/T 0.706
60' 2.902
330 7.494
1/8 10.886
MPH 73.140
1000 13.788
1/4 16.233!!!!
MPH 92.820
2) Run2: 9:04 PM, D4 VSA off, (forget A/C on) no brake torque ( Peeling, Torque Steering ):

R/T 0.558
60' 2.800
330 7.166
1/8 10.568
MPH 72.870
1000 13.482
1/4 15.925!!!!
MPH 92.52

3) Run3: 9:26 PM, D4 VSA off, (A/C OFF) 1000-1500 RPM brake torque ( Peeling, Torque Steering ):

R/T 0.901
60' 2.584 (Good! Brake torque helped)
330 6.890
1/8 10.257
MPH 73.33
1000 13.156
1/4 15.591!!!!
MPH 92.77

Lesson learn.. you want to do to the strip... buy slick tires or at least UHP Summer Tires ( Nitto 555 or Toyo Proxies T1-S) Added power no grip means lower numbers.

I noticed that with each run the ambiant temprature was cooler which helped the CAI to do its trick...

I am only sad cause last year I did 15.4s @90.31MPH!!, 60' was 2.370s!!!

ANy one knows what could be the cause of this low performance! is the tires as I suspect?
Is it the engine that needs tunning?
Can I do anything to tune my engine?
Should I dyno my engine?

If the car is fine... Work on your launch!!! 2.8 short times; arrrghhh... BTW, for every tenth you gain in the short time, expect 2 tenths gain at the end of the track (especially in these cars)...

Nashua,

Did you try D1->D2->D3 as I suggested? I too went to the track tonight against an E430, GS400 with intake and chip, and a modified 930 Turbo.

The results are as follows using D1->D2->D3:

#1 GS400 CL-S (VSA on)
R/T 1.185 1.104
0-60 2.487 2.673
1/4 15.439 15.654
MPH 93.12 93.15

#2 GS400 CL-S (VSA off)
R/T 1.034 .693
0-60 2.462 2.504
1/4 15.288 15.167
MPG 94.16 93.56

#3 930 Turbo CL-S (VSA off)
R/T .591 .823
0-60 2.178 2.477
1/4 14.514 15.199
MPH 90.56 93.58

#4 E430 CL-S (VSA off)
R/T .597 .840
0-60 2.470 2.430
1/4 15.229 15.260
MPH 93.31 92.60

#5 E430 CL-S (VSA off)
R/T .712 .524
0-60 2.688 2.554
1/4 15.538 15.296
MPH 93.51 92.75

A couple comments are warranted here. As you can see, the better the 0-60ft time the better the 1/4 mile time assuming everything being equal (ie: miss shift, Overrevving). Also, by the 4th run on, the car has warmed up quite a bit as well as the track has been well ran by other cars, so traction is not as great along with a warm engine; thus, 1/4 time decreased slightly.

So, Scalbert is right. Practice your launch. Our cars should be able to do 0-60ft time in 2.5 or les and 1/4 mile should be in the low 15's like above at worst.

Try D1->D2->D3 out.

good numbers frank, consistent

I've tried the D1->d2->d3 after someone else mentionned it to me. It seems to work pretty well, you can control the launch better and minimize tire-spin while still getting the benefit of 1st gear power.

The only drawback is having to shift yourself at redline and sometimes running into the limiter.

FDao,

Nope, I did not try D1>D2>D3, Run#1 was in D3 others were in D4.

Were you running stock tires, or summertires?

I would love to know what 1/4 numbers we would have:

1) With summner tires 18" 235/40
2) With summner tires 17" 235/45
3) With Slick tires on 17" or 16"

Next time I would try with my 18" 235/40 Nitto 555, after my 15.000 service.

BTW, That Si that beated me by 0.2sec had only CAI and UHP Khomo tires with lightweight rims. No word on engine work.

The reasons why ur times suck is cause ur 60 foot times suck even more.
Don't take that as an insult. But 2.8 and 2.9 60' are really pathetic.

I just went to the track yesturday in my little 2.2 CL and here's my results.

1/4 15.92
60' 2.3598
1/8 10.2538

1/4 15.88
60' 2.3467
1/8 10.213

A 2.4 60' is considered average and not that great either. I have yet to get a 2.2 though.

Good luck.. just work on that launch.

CLTypeR,

Good eye for pointing that out. I remember somebody was telling me the for every .1 60' time you go less, accounts for 1.5-2 points off your quarter.

Okay, I may be the most novice drag racer thers is.

Please for those who get their CLS to the srip, how do we launch correctly our CLS.

Even better how do you prep your CLS correctly at the Strip.

Thank you all for the advice. Without practice and good advice, no improvement

This reminds of the TV Show, "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire." It seems so easy to get fast fast answers at home. But, when the lights are on, and the audience is there, it's tension-time.

Speaking of the D1->D2->D3 -- I wish they had put the D1 inline with the D2-D5 detents.

Nashua, good luck next time. You will have the Nittos back (yes/no)?

Did you toss the spare, jack, etc. out?
Did you run with 1/8 tank?
Did you bring your strap-on JATO bottles (j/k)?

As for the nittos. Yep I have 2 out of 4 (Tires and rims, both stacked in my appartment) . The Tire guy get the nittos in his store (2-3 days delay). However. the konig Imagine are in back order and claimed a delay of 2-3 weeks I need to call Konig and see if he is BSing me ore when I get the konig Imagine.

Only, the spare tire was out. I ran with 1/2+ tank.

Crippen: Thanks. I agree with you. The D1->D2->D3 technique does help quite a bit with minimizing wheel spin.

Nashua: My times were on stock tires/Rims; slightly below 1/2 tank of gas, and all stock motor. No removal of spare tire/jack. I suspect that with your 18" your time may not be much better unless your weight reduction is significant enough to offset the rolling inertia of the 18" as Eric pointed out many posts ago. I believe that with lighter rims and better tires, our cars can get below 15.0, even without Headers and Intake.

oonowindoo,

Huh? Nah, it's not hard at all, because when you put it in D1, the stick goes left into the slot. When you shift to D2, you just need to flick it to the right and it stays in that position. From there, you just need to nudge it up to D3. Be careful though, if you put more force into your shifting, you might nudge it to D4 or D5

If atock tires are spinng badly, with 18" wheels that weigh 23.8lb each ( same or less than stock ) with UHP tires Nitto 555 235/40/18, Do you think the added grip will offset the rotational inertia going to 18" from 17"?

Nashua,

That's a darn good question! My suspicion, for which I have no proof yet, is that traction and rotational inertia are 2 different entities. You can have excellent traction, but if the rim/tire combo weight is high, you still will be spending more energy getting the car moving.

Eric or anyone else would like to add to this?

i'm at home, so i grabbed my slips from rockfalls raceway last fall. i took 10 runs that day, started off with 1/4 tank gas, gas light was on during the last race. i was completely stock. my best time was my final run. i got that by doing a brake stand a 3,000 rpm in SS mode. (i have not tried the D1->D2->Dx method) Here's the info:

R/T: .615
60': 2.466
330: 6.574
1/8: 9.887
1/4: 15.161
MPH: 93.63

All ten runs were between 15.1 and 15.4 in times, and 91-94 mph. At least I was consistent

Now, I had a question in mind, Is there any relation to the 330' numbers and the 0-60MPH number? it seems that they are very close.
