Magnetic Drain plugs?

it can`t hurt unless you go by the method of putting a magnet in the filter (usually have to break a bit off) this may just add extra debris to cause harm, but I`ve even heard of people just putting magnets on the outside of the oil pan to collect shit

am using this on my Engine drain plug....the plug they send me for the tranny didnt fit
Engine plug: It does catch metal shavings....Stock engine plug does not have a magnet so this small magnet on the plug does the job pretty good !!!
Tranny plug: I compared the stock 3G TL tranny magnet and this new magnet and damn this was more powerful....cant install the new one but well its powerful....and the stock does catch metal shavings....lets hope the new one they'll send me does a better job !!!

yea but the particles of metal it should collect won't be that visible to the eye. they are extremely small particles. so u just wipe off the magnetic area and put back in.
remember our trannys do shed metal internally lol... POS they are. so i'd be great piece of mind to have a magnetic drain plug especially for the trans. I just figured I'd get both if i'm getting one anyway

I haven't changed the trans fluid yet. only been 15000kms since the rebuild.
Gonna wait till 20000K or so to do a 3x3 change with Royal Purple ATF and a new ATF filter.
thanks tho... didn't know trans is magnetic, now I won't bother wasting money on this since that's the one I was concerned about.

My tranny plug is magnetic, I bought a new one cause the hole was stripped out and the new one is magnetic too.
Its friggin scary what I collect on there after 30k, a half inch of sludge.
Its probably not needed for the engine oil since the filter collects most contaminates but it wouldnt hurt.

hell i used GM-dextron synthetic on my company MDX along with 3L of Royal Purple ATF
and before the car would move up 300rpms while in 5th gear on the highway.
after the 3x3 change (with the "WRONG" recommended fluid) everything is now functioning like it should. It SAVED the trans.

yeah valvolin max life full synthetic, also says it is fully compatible with Honda's atf, which chemically it is, more of the problem is making sure that royal purple atf has enough anti foaming additive in it, otherwise it will foam it self out the vent tube (even with an additional cooler also)

LOL ATF foaming..
sorry that made me laugh
It's royal purple guys, I'm sure that's one of the first things they look into. They check and double check all of their bases to ensure they have a superior product. There products are not rediculously priced for the heck of it. There is tremendous engineering into every single one of their products.
They added royal purple engine oil, tranyn fluid and rear diff fluid and got 8-9 WHP out of just changing the FLUID!!
royal purple has more lubrication (less resistance) yet has better protection against wear. That to me EQUAL the Victor

try this:

nothing specific, but ATF does foam (and he just happens to have the same fluid that was in my car [95% sure] when it puked itself

anyways.. i'm gonna change her out to RP in a few weeks when the weather is better. do a 3x3 and ATF filter.
if it's gonna foam it's gonna foam with the Honda fluid anyways so w/e.
OMFG you should have seen how bron, burnt and bad the MDX fluid was. OMFG. i looked like liquid burnt, creamy, shit.. I SWEAR TO GOD.
that honda fluid had its ass put through the meat grinder HARD

Ive got magnetic plugs in both the tranny and the oil pan. It was one of the first things I installed.

foaming with honda atf, not if they happen to add more anti foaming additive, then your universial fluid
also to help with not seeing atf possibly foamin, try this:
http://www.sae.org/technical/papers/2002-01-2818
a SAE test for the measuring of the foaming in ATF fluid

see I'm not gonna add anything to my fluid, I don't believe it needs it. Unless it's Z max, that stuff is absolutely amazing (trans, engine, and fuel additives). I've personally witnessed instant results with the additives on my previous car and on my bros current car.
Royal purple has me sold on their products.
besides i don't wanna buy honda fluid anyway... they probably make a FORTUNE off of it. I'd rather give my money to Royal Purple and help them keep making the best engine lubricators on the market. granted the RP is more $ but not by much I would think, and for the price, I'd rather have a company that ONLY makes lubricants than a company that MADE a lubricant (honda ATF-Z1) since their previous lubricant wasn't good enough.
Honda seems to be at par in that category IE they're just trying to NOT FALL BEHIND.
Whereas RP is way ahead of the game.

I think I got them from Password JDM a few years ago.

There should already be a magnet in the transmission pan.
I tried selling a brand-new magnetic in-line filter for the transmission on here a while back with zero interest (even well below cost). Adds the addition filtering the fluid again and removing any metal particles with the magnet. Still isn't gonna save your auto tranny but it will keep more stuff out of the fluid.

no, it's just that the fluid gets dirty fast (usually too fast). and then ur tranny begins to fry and ur gears literally grind down (i saw my gears from my rebuild, 2 of them had virtually no grooves left) it's rediculous like it lost 1 maybe 2 mm.
to me that's enough to change fluid every 20-30K
and clean that magnetic drain plug pin.
How does the OEM tranny plug look, does it have a magnet that protrudes out, or is it a stubby one that's just magnetized ?

Usually there's a magnet stuck to the bottom of the transmission pan in most cars that picks up any metal shavings. I can't imagine that a plug has enough surface are at hold much in the way of shavings.

also surface area does not really matter, it's more the strength of the magnetic field with how much each magnet can hold to itself
and for progression, i think it sticks out from the plug

Get some rare earth magnets and stick them to the outside of the transmission pan if you're worried. Superglue them in place if you don't want them to move.
