Lower 0-60 without effecting warranty??

I have read numerous modifications which are both expensive and will probably VOID the warranty.
Any suggestions for a cheap, ($500) modification to reduce 0-60 times?

Sorry, raise the price, and add new (very light weight) wheels and sticky tires. They did more than the headers and intake for speed. They also reduce the strain on the engine...

Change the motor oil and autotranny fluid a lot. If you can afford it, use synthetics, Mobil 1 being a perennial favorite.

Change to DOT-legal drag semi-slicks. (~$500-$600)
Step up to truly lightweight wheels. ($2000+)
A 5-gallon bucket of traction compound to slather on your tires.

This is the best suggestion I've heard to improve 0 - 60.

Can you quote one shread of evidence that shows synthetic fluids decreases 0 to 60 times. I sincerely doubt it!

Sorry Dtew, but the car lacks enough torque to need the street slicks and the traction glue stuff...I tried it. You need a new TC if you plan on using that. One that will raise the stall speed to about 3200...I don't think we need peak torque off the line...but more than 2100rpms...especially if you have the headers. I think the unsprung weight of the rims are the killer on the car too. Running 235/40/17 street slicks...I ran almost .8 seconds slower...due to the width of the tire and too much bite at the line. It slowed me down as I got to the 1/4 mile line.

haha me too, except i'm 5'7"

maybe it wasn't such a good idea

btw who's that guy that put sparco seats in his type s, and gutted the back seats? i think that's the most effective way...but defeats the purpose of a luxury car IMO...still pimp though, all he needs is a custom xs engineering turbo kit running at 20 psi

Whoever said it was to decrease 0-60mph times?

If ERNIE was interested in low 0-60mph times, it wouldn't be much of a stretch to imagine that he's going to be doing more than the usual share of full-throttle jackrabbit starts and brake-torqued launches.

There is significantly more than "one shred of evidence" that frequent fluid changes and/or synthetics will help in staving off some of the wear that he will incur on his highly stressed engine and drivetrain.

I don't think it would be much of a stretch to imagine that people care at least a little about engine/tranny wear.

OTOH, if you only care about dropping your 0-60mph w/o any regard to wear and longevity, I have one word for ya: acetone. (Don't try it. I'm not even that sure it works with modern SFI systems.)

Very interesting observations, moo. If high initial bite is keeping a stock CL-S from reaching peak torque at launch, could lauching on a semi-slick surface help?

I disagree with the comment about slower 1/4 mile time with the wider tires. I am running a Nitto 555 Extreme 235/45/17 on a konig wheel and this alone dropped my 0-60 to approx 6.1-6.2 from 6.6 on 0-60 with 97-98 trap speeds.

FWIW My CL-S is only 6 weeks old and has less than 1,200 miles on it. My son and I timed the CL and the best time I could get was 7.28, but he weighs 200 LBS--I should have kicked him out of the car. We decided to wait until I have 2500-3500 miles on it before another run (w/o him as a passanger).
He has a 2000 Mustang GT V8 and feels sorry for me--Yea right! Of course he recognizes the Mustang can't compare in quality and handling.
FYI I purchasd, NEW [OK so I am not so young :~] a 1960 Pontiac Catalina, Tri-Power (3-2s) with special headers and cam, 348 HP and 389 cu. inches. 0-60 times in the 5 second range and 1/4 mile times in the high 13s. Remember this car weighed over 4000 LBs and I had only a 3 speed stick.
