Loud clicking noise...not the starter

My 2001 CL-S has been running great even though it has over 175k miles on it. Starting this morning, I hear a loud clicking noise while the car was running which would start, then stop after a minute or so. Happened 3 or 4 times during my hour long commute. When I got to the job and shut the engine off, it restarted just fine so its def not the starter. Curiously, it started making the same noise with the engine off and the key in the ON position so obviously something electrical. Any ideas about what this could be? Problem doesn't affect how the car runs but its damn annoying.

maybe the purge solenoid valve? it's drivers side near the firewall. Small black...if you put your finger on it you can feel the ticking. Could also be valves or injectors.
