looking for a winter beater....

My budget is $10,000 TOPS, and it has to be AWD. I was thinking of the Rav4. I know, kinda wimpy...but a '99 with around 50-60,000 miles I can get around 9k. Any other options with THESE PARAMETERS:

Not more then 70k miles
AWD vehicle
1998 up
Not more then $10,000

What about a lower price Subie? They're all AWD, and some of the older ones could be found for fairly cheap I would assume......?

get a jeep cherokee sport. fantastic winter car...a 99 with 50k should be less than 10 grand. got a V6, pretty quick, fun to drive.

subaru outback is good too. yeah its a station wagon but they are nice cars. my mom used to drive one it was fantastic in the snow. I used to pass all kinds of stuck SUV's with the Outback in like a foot of snow.

Toyota Rav4. They're reliable and able to take winter beatings.

Get an imprezza. the other models are really cheap in the older years.

For a little classier interior try an older Subie Legacy sedan. My folks have one in Buffalo, it goes in snow like a champ but has at least a little class on the interior too. Not as sure about pricing...

Reliable, yeah probably... but it has a junky interior, its ugly as hell, and for the same price there are a lot of better cars/ trucks out there.

Come on, you've got enough taste to drive a CL, you can't seriously tell me you want to buy one of these:

My dad's got a 99 cherokee sport, never had a single thing wrong with it. My stepdads got I think a 94 grand cherokee with 140,000 miles on it, no problems other than routine maint. My two best friends both drive grand cherokees...one has a 96 one has 02...no problems.

I know they used to have a lot of electrical problems but that was a long time ago...in my experience Jeeps have been very problem free.

On the other hand if I didn't read about all the trannys blowing up on this site...I would probably say the CL has a top notch transmission since mine hasn't gone out on me...yet.

Either way Jeep > Rav4 (unless its a Liberty)

pretty shitty.

haha.

I think I got around 18 city when I used to drive my dads Cherokee Sport. Its a V6 with 190 hp though, compared to a RAV4 which is a 4 cylinder with 148 hp. The toyota gets 22 city.

Jeep = 225 torque
Rav4= 142 torque

Why is a Jeep a POS? this I want to hear.

I think a used 4wd subaru is the way I would look...
Can't say I think much of subaru's tranmissions though.

Toyota might be a better choice.

haha.. look above, I was basing my STRONG opinion on two friends of mine, they both had bad experiences, but they were older models. I'm looking at 99+

edit: just did some reviews, '99 Jeep Cherokee is looking good.... hmmmmm....I may consider this.....
