The 330ci just looks cute. 225hp/150 something tq tops. Ate one the other night from a slow roll. Runs strong in second and third gear, though. He had me by a bumper until he upshifted to third. After that I walked away from him. He was so embarrassed he shut all the way down and commenced to cruising under the speed limit. I guess his little feelings were hurt that he couldn't beat my old ass Acura in his hot waxed white Bimmer.

Believable. The Benz has 26 pounds more torque and a couple more horsepower but weighs 173 pounds more. That's a whole human being's worth of weight.

I guess it's possible that you won if you really do have every bolt on

I was racing at the track a couple weeks ago and was running faster times than this one 370z that was there

I always wondered how people can tell if a random car they race is an auto or manual from just a quick encounter? And how do you know it was stock?

Sounds like another bs story to me.

if you read my story then maybe youd know it wasnt a quick encounter i was driving with him all the way from the highway. and you can hear the sounds of the exhaust and tell its an automatic

Consider yourselves road kings of sorts. There are very few cars in the CL-S' class, even in the 2011 line-up, that can flat out beat a stock 02 Acura CL-S whether manual or automatic. The mere fact that we can sit here and talk about beating a 2011 E class Mercedes Benz and an 06' BMW with an 02' speaks volumes--I don't give a damn what people say about the Germans being rear wheel drive. An old 02' CL-S can still beat almost every entry level vehicle that the Germans can put out. We all know Honda/Acura has the technology to surpass the Germans. They just don't want to abandon their traditional automotive strategies in order to do so. If you know otherwise, then say so.

No. You lost fair and square. The Saab 9 3 aero is a turbocharged 2.8-liter V6 capable of 280 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque.

You saw the stock numbers for the Saab. A CL-S would need substantial mods to beat the numbers the Saab is producing. If you're modded with a turbo, and/ or nitrous and/or a supercharger, larger heads etc. that's one thing. But if you're running around in a mostly stock CL-S with a couple bolt-ons like an intake or exhaust or a lighter flywheel and expect to beat a Saab 9-3 Aero, whether it's stock or modded, you're not going to win.

What year SAAB are we talking about?

The 07 9-3 Aeros have 250/258 and are 3570lbs in the auto and 3210 in the manual (huge difference, not sure if thats accurate).

The 08 (newest gen) has 255/258 and are 3285 (auto) or 3175 (manual).

The 09 had 280/262 and was the same weight as the previous year.

For 2010 they got rid of the V6 engine, and the Aeros have 210/221.

The higher 280/295 cars that you mentioned is the Turbo X which was pretty beastly but only about 600 of them made it to our shores.

Either way, he lost.

He never said anything about the year of the car. But you have to estimate that even with the weakest 07' Aero, if the guy had an oversized aftermarket turbo and exhaust--not to mention whatever other mods the dude may have had--he was probably pushing 09' specs or higher.

Yea, I was trying to clear up some of the confusion as to whether or not it was stock, as you said even a stock 9-3 will beat us, when, quite frankly the specs dont line up.

Saab is a serious automobile manufacturer, particularly, before GM gained ownership, that has been largely overlooked by the mainstream. I've never really been a Saab fan--the body styles they dreamed up for their production cars in the 80's were horrendous--but I've always had respect for their engine building technology:

In October 1986 the Saab Long Run took place. Three standard Saab 9000 Turbos set 2 world records and 21 international records at the Talladega Superspeedway in Talladega, Alabama, USA. 100,000 km (62,137 miles) were covered with an average speed of 213.299 km/h (132.537 mph) and 50,000 miles (80,467 km) with an average speed of 213.686 km/h (132.778 mph).

They even had their own Pro Saab series back in the 80's, which featured open wheel, indy car-like body styles powered by normally aspirated turbocharged V6 engines. The only mods was the emissions was taken off and the boost was increased. Anybody that bothers to mod a Saab knows what the hell they have and know what to do with it.

I classify SAAB in the same category as Volvo. Mostly tame cars in stock form but they have tons of potential. Id love an old turbo brick though.

Was that a typo? Or am I missing something? Oh wait, are you saying they took a engine that was not designed for a turbo and put a turbo on it?
Neat fact there anyways. I saw a very nice Viggen for sale awhile back. I just did not know to much about it. Slick looking though.

I didn't word it right. What I meant to say was they took standard production V6 turbocharged Saab engines and put them in Indy car-style bodies. I may be somewhat of an autoracing guru, particularly, of the 80's and early 90's era, but I'm pretty sure Saab was the only manufacturer that raced standard production turbos (minimal boost increase) back then. Most other racing teams in that era were running ghastly amounts of boost in Godzilla grade turbos, which was why they eventually outlawed turbos as well as the Audi all wheel drive cars that were destroying the competition even with 50 pound lead weights in the trunk.
