Lights on the Radio do not always light up?

I am a stickler about the buttons lighting up in my car .. I just changed the bulbs out on the a/c system of my non nav 2001 CL-s. The lights on the radio are going dim/off at night when i turn the lights on and when i whack it it comes to full lighting but then will go back off a min later.. It has been happening for like a week but after a good whack the radio knew who the boss was and all the lights stayed on , now its not responding to the whacks and when it does come on it will just come off in a min or soo. The bulbs on the radio are not like the a/c unit , I think it iss all 1 light inside the radio.

Is there anyway to put new light / bulb in there or is there a fix for it?
If there is a way to replace the light / bulb can u let me know how?

Thanks!

I dont want to replace my radio there has to be something that i can replace to make all the lights work again instead of replacing the whole radio!?!?

i think you have to take out the radio and open it up. they sell LED kits online for the radio, you can probably get the instructions from there.

yeah, the OEM radio does have a "faceplate" of sorts that you remove and all the bulbs are there on the circuit board. It'll probably take a good hour or two to get everything taken apart, replaced and put back together.

They wont just pop in. They are part of the circuit board.

You still have your stock radio?

with replacing the radio lights youre going to have to soderat one point since the bulbs are part of the circuit board. You can get the bulbs at a radioshack or similar store though.

Yes I do have the stock radio.

I thought the bulbs on the radio where like the bulbs on the ac unit where u can just screw the old one out and the new one in.
That really sucks if im gonna have to start soldering bulbs on might just be better off getting a oem head unit on e-bay and just switching out the whole cercuit board or the whole radio is it comes with the code.

So u guys ARE SURE the bulbs are sodered on and not like the AC bulbs where u can screw the old out and new in!

They are 100% soldered to the circuit board. Id sell you mine but I like to keep all my stock parts for when I decide to sell the car.

Ok...

I dont think that the bulbs are burnt out becuz when the headlights are off the radio light works and when I turn the headlights on the radio lights shut off..WTF?

If its not the bulbs cuz they work when the HL are off what can it be?
I hate not seeing the radio or stations at night drives me CRAZY!

If i just bough a cheap used radio and just used that circuit board and oly the ciruit board (so i would no have a new radio code i think) ..Do u think that would work?
I found some radios for the 01 cl with broken CD players for like $20-$30 .
What do u guys think? would that get it working or is it a waste of time and money to try that!?!

I have the exact same thing going on...just started but it's not constant. It's like every few days it will happen.

I haven't got to experiment with it much, but before starting the car try different combinations of having your lights turned on and radio off, lights turned off and radio on, etc. That seems to do something on mine.

Is it that big of a deal really?? I mean i am particular bout things but i have alot bigger things to worry about. You better be lucky that it isnt a part that you have to have to get the car running that really cost money to repair. Be happy with what you got. Im sure you will find a solution sometime. Good luck.

Thats exactly what I was gonna suggest. I mean if you really are set on keep the stock radio then I don't see why this wouldn't work. I mean unless the codes are stored in the board, but you can go to any dealership and get the codes. Just make sure you hold on to the entire radia that you buy so you have the number on it to give them so they can look it up.

Good luck with taking out the old board. Don't see why it won't work. Should document. I'm sure plenty of people could benefit from a decent write-up as these radios get older and older.

I hope that's not my CD player that you are selling.

Because I never got any money from you after shipping it.

Well I ate all the costs for shipping in an effort to be a good seller because either UPS broke it during shipping or the other guy broke it.

I got screwed twice in selling the head unit but I was trying my best to cool with you.

Now I thought you were trying to sell it for some money and I was going to be pissed off.

And since I never got the head unit back I had no way of verifying it's condition.

Wasn't sure if you were trying to trick me or something.
