legend caliper question
#50
I was telling my brother about this mod and I think he brought up a decent point. If you swap the direction of the legend calipers while putting them onto a CL do you put undo stress on the caliper? He seems to think they're directional and that they're weren't engineered to be put on in reverse so there is a potential for failure. I asked him if he ever broke a caliper while using his brakes in reverse.. Granted you would never do 100 in reverse and slam the brakes (in theory what you do to a legend caliper on a CL) I still think he's a ruhtard.

^ I might have to do this when doing my brakes in the spring. I bought all new rotors and pads but still haven't put them on.
Anyone have more insight on the bleeding screw? Progression, have you got any pricing on these from anywhere local??

yes that is why you need to reverse them, cause of the bleeder screw location. That's why I was asking about the brake lines if i can use the same SS lines you'd buy for the CL brakes. Which you can.
I'm gonna stockpile some goodies and when good weather comes, install them.

So what.. if your calipers are in mint condition, there won't be a big difference if I go to the dual piston?
I have to paint my calipers. it's a MUST for me. either gloss red or vindveil blue, probably the blue though cause it's such a unique color. I wanna do something different. But I still haven't made up my mind.
I'm gonna get G2 caliper paint and throw the caliper in the oven and bake that shyt on, right after it's painted.

From the picture, it does not appear that the 'Pad spring', which fits at the top of the caliper is installed. That's good, because if you install it there will be grinding as it tends to rest on the edge of the rotor. I mistakenly left the pad springs on when I did mine and got a horrible grinding when I drove off. I was like WTF! Otherwise, these calipers are a decent mod for the money for those who have high mileage cars with tired calipers.

If that thread does not help you to determine whether these calipers are for you, then don't buy them.

Im kinda leaning towards the R1 concept slotted rotors for $200 for all 4. This will save me money to do an extra mod. Just hope it dsnt bite me in the ass from a cracked rotor etc. Anyone have anything against r1 concept slotted that wants to talk me out of it. other ones im looking at will all cost 300-400 for all 4.
http://www.ebcbrakes.com/automotive/...rs/index.shtml anyone have any experience with the ebc usr series rotor and how it is vs their sport series.

When I was doing research for my calipers I was worried about the mounting of them too. Mine mounted normal with the bleeder facing down. Had no problem with the lines or clearing the system.
Like I posted before. I am extremely happy with my R1's. Great response and even wear with no cracking or warping. I've done some serious highway stops and the Legend calipers combo'd with these rotors and their pads is amazing!

right now mine are mat red..and the brake dust cakes into the paint on the fronts. So I'm gonna Paint over them with a glossy color.
Personally I think the brakes look good when they are painted (as long as you don't paint the brake pads). I took the pads out when doing my paint job so the pads are still crisp and I think it looks much better that way.

I keep hearing people say they are worried about this but no one has shown any proof of this. I mean i'm sure its possible but my drilled are in great shape! I have the drilled and slotted. Its personal preference really, i just liked the look of the combo drilled and slotted. GL with the conversion!

I just wanted to add a comment I heard on another site about running the legend calipers upside down. The issue they brought up is that the two pistons are slightly different sizes. They are made with the bottom one a little bigger, and the top a little smaller. They were only talking about a few mm difference in size, but said it could be a problem. I have not gotten a set yet to confirm if this is true and I am going to do this upgrade anyway, but wanted to put that information out there. If anyone has a set that is not on a car, check out the diameter of each piston and let us know if the article I read is true or BS. Thanks. By the way, my calipers are gloss red on a red car, with open wheels and look great! I get lot's of comments, but it is to each his own.

Thats true that the pistons are two different sizes.

Air rises to the top. The bleed screw should be on top.

^^and that is why we mount them left->right and right->left. I've had mine on for a few thousand miles and haven't had any problems. No squeeks, nothing, just solid stopping power.

Think Im gonna go with the http://www.autoanything.com/brakes/6...0A3050726.aspx ebc ultimax rotors. I like how the slots are made to be ultra quiet and they are coated so they wont rust. 330 for all 4 isnt too bad. I found the goodridge lines on ebay for a good price http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWAX:IT
these ebc yellow pads are tempting but i wanna get the reds or hawk hps i think. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWAX:IT
