Leather "Peeling" on seat

I've received a couple PMs about this subject. Here are my seats as they are peeling. Bottom pad is doing the same thing. This is not normal wear for a car with 21,000 miles. Maybe for one with 210,000 miles. Dealer has ordered me a new top and bottom cover.

Those are leather wrinkles pretty normal tear and wear I have those too... I use the memory function #2 as an exit button, that would greatly reduce the wrinkles..

I don't see peeling ,....great to have your seat covers being replaced .....

Good luck!

If you look closely on the right, the leather "topper" is actually peeling off. This is not a wrinkle or a fold. I have those too as you can see to the lower inside. My 30 year old MB doesn't have this kind of wear. NOT NORMAL!

Yes I do. But this is clearly from getting in and out of the car - and before you go there, I'm 5' 9" and 165 so don't ask about the lardass situation.

NNH's suggestion is a good one and one I have used for about 6 months. Position 1 is with the seat WAAAYYY back - that is what I get in with. Then I sit and hit button #2 which is my driving position.

mine did something similar only after 6 months, and acrua of pleasanton replaced the leather on the seat for free, and since then, the same thing has never happened again. i find that very strange.

but at least they took care of it free for me

Covered under warranty.

One thing I will say is that I mentioned this to another dealer - Sunnyside and they said they could replace the seatcover as a "one-time" item and that Acura would only reimburse them once per car...

I took my 2001 Cl-S with 58K to the dealer for the same peeling leather problem. I was told that only the Original 50K warranty covered it and I was out of luck. Since I bought the car as a Certified Pre-owned, the basic coverage should have been extended to 62K. I also have an extended warranty which I was told does not cover cosmetic flaws. I am really pissed about the prro quality of these seats and have written a letter to Acura customer care. Right now, the drivers seat looks like crap and is an embarassment.

I also have major issues with the center wheel caps that have all cracked after only one year. Was told that these were not covered either....

This wear is caused by the damn pocket bottons on the back of your pants. Almost every time you enter the car, the botton scrapes that part of the seat. I unbotton the pockets so the bottons are inside the pants. It happened to my other car also

I drive with the seat all the way back, and I dont use the power memory seats at all, so maybe that will prevent it from happening? That sucks though, I hope they fix it right.

I had the steering wheel problem, until I rubbed it with leather conditioner and started using a sunscreen for the windsheild. You would think that you wouldn't want that on the wheel for driving but it fully dries in less than a day.

Acura leather sucks. My driver's seat buttom leather is loose and streched, forming big bubles.... I showed it to my dealer, and they said its "normal tear and wear" yeah right.... I am 170lb, 6ft tall, and had this car for 3 years.... but its useless to argue, and I dont feel like calling customer care and complain...

Was your leather bubbling and streched, or just cracked?

it started as deep creases, then the coating came off, so I guess you would call it cracks. This happened at 28K miles...NOT normal wear and tear. Guys...this is a $30K car...don't write off things that indicate poor quality as normal wear and tear. Take issues to your dealer and insist that Acura lives up to its reputation for excellent quality and service.

Whats my next step, the service advisor told me NO two times regarding streched leather, they acknowledged its streched, but said its normal tear and wear. I am trying to resolve it peacefully, should I call customer care?

Is it stretched or cracked? Is the coating actually coming off? If that's the case, I would take it to a different dealer first, then call Customer Care if you are not taken care of.

Wait for it to crack, it will, then there will be no argument. You've got plenty of warranty left.

My seats have creases in them in the bottom left bolster, & the back left bolster. Mine are not peeling, or anything, just creases. That pic shows the side of the back bolster peeling which is not normal.

Had mine replaced at 20k miles.
Russian... here is what you do.. Got to the dealer and start looking at an MDX or something, get a salesman to start seeing $$$$$. Them ask to speak with the manager. Tell the sales manager your wife or you want to buy it but you need him to explain why you should buy another car from them when they refuse to fix your first car. You would also like to know why you should buy a product that will fall apart in 50k miles or less.
This has been very effective for me.
Speak their language....$$$$$$$

Mine is just like MikeS 18's photo except is limited to the side of seat. The front is fine - for now. Mine started as cracks and quickly began to peel. Acura obviously has a major quality/manufacturing problem here (like their transmissions) and needs suck it up and to live up to their reputation.

My dealer was also adament about not doing anything (58K but I have certified and extended warranty). I would expect this crap from a GM, but not a Honda/Acura product.

Our leather is coated with a plastic or vinyl or something similar. It's real leather underneath, but vinyl on the outside. I believe you have to step up to the Lexus and BMW-level to get non-coated leather.

Same thing happened to my driver seat. It was covered under warranty with no questions asked.

Good luck!

Well I got blown off by Acura Customer Care. He said that he understands the problem and why I am so upset, but since the car is out of basic warranty (57K), there is nothing they can do about the leather. And by the way, the Certified and Extended warranty which I was told covers the same stuff as the original, does not cover "appearance" issues.

I am very pissed. I explained that this is a well known problem and Acura should take responsability for the poor quality of its leather.

I also lodged a complaint against my dealer who sold me a poorly repainted car with body work done on it (can see sanding scratches under paint) without informing me about it. I discovered this fact the first time I waxed the car. It makes me wonder what happened to the car to cause the paint to need replacing in the first place.

I guess it is my fault for not seeing the problems before I bought the car, but I never figured a certified car would have these issues. Let this be a warning - even if the car is certified, check it out completely before dropping 20+ grand.
