Last CL runs before teardown.

Cars an 03 CL 3.2. 4th gear clutch parks are starting to go and the car needs front end work after an accident in the snow. Going to start the front end tear down this weekend, figured I would get a last few runs in before doing so. Stock with 205k miles (original engine, tranny replaced at 40k due to recall warrenty) with CAI.

Just a pic of the car in its current state.

Now for the runs:

0-105, lost traction in 1st.
10-105, good run.
55-90, little vtec action.

Took the trans apart and it seems it got hot at once point. Main shaft clutch pack was blue around the outside, clutches completely shot. Apparently a company called Sonnax does perminant fixes to hondas issues with the tranny. Getting a custom valvebody, kevlar and titanium clutches, and a aftermarket converter. Also having a b&m trans cooler installed inreplacement of stock cooler. Fans will be adjusted in computer and also doing a 160 degree thermostat.

I went to level ten to get my clutch/seal kit... cost 500$

I dunno how a new valvle body will help you because our transmission have them built into the casting I think or something like that.

it's the casting and pump that do not allow enough flow, so all of that will have to be customized in order to rid the trans of it's heating up issue.

what I do know tho is I put a trans cooler on the car and a trans temp gauge and I can tell you from ONE run fro 0-100 the trans will go up more than 10 degrees with a cooler!!

so a cooler is a must and strong high heat capacity clutches are also a must.

how u fix the flow issues is more than I am familiar with, but i called around and what I was being told is it's the actual castings in the transmission itself that are the problem. thus for need to be bored out along with a stronger pump and yes probably a new valve body.

IF you go on LEVELTEN.com they supply valve bodys for many transmission BUT NOT THE CL because apparently it's not as simply as putting new ones in. I was on the phone for a while about this.

Maybe they are wrong... i dunno but I do know I tried to get everything i could for the trans and they said aside from me coming down there and them boring out the casting which would allow for a customized valve body (not a direct swap) buying better/stronger components is my best shot.

I hope u are right tho bro.. I just have to doubt it after all my inquiries.

I can tell you tho the trans gets to 180s easily in the summer and 200s if u are ripping it without a cooler on a decently hot day.

and the cooler will bring the temps down if u are driving to the 160s maybe even lower depending on outside temps.

I rock the cooler even in the winter... I wraped it once in header wrap so it retain a little heat... and in minus 10 C weather it will still sometimes get to 150s possibly even 160 in the worst bumper to bumper traffic.

I only rip my car now when temps are below 170.

THINK OF ALL THE TIMES u ripped it on stock crappy clutches when temps were probably 200 degrees or more in there!!! friggin scarry.

and don't bother with a tq converter. get a transstar they are made the best for the price. and u don't wanna change the tq converter stall point on our cars it's actually set at a really good point considering where our power starts.

increasing the stall point will only add stress to the trans components.
