Lake Effect Snow
Those of you who live near Lake Erir and get that snowfall each ywar this question is for you.
Would an Outback be OK in that, or should one go for an Explorer, or bigger SUV? What does one need to get around well in LE snow?
My brother in med school is looking for an SUV. The school is in Erie, PA.

We certainly dont get the snowfall of Buffalo or Erie... but once the LE snow hits there it hits us... and an Outback would certainly do fine.
There was 1 storm out in those parts last year that you would need a huge 4x4 for.
But for most purposes a 4wd car would be just fine.
I dunno about PA but in most of Upstate, NY their pretty good about clearing snow from the roads... so you dont need major ground clearance.
My CL did just fine all last winter on stock rubber. And we got plenty of snow.
