Know where the side air bag comes out?

Unfortunately I crashed my CLS, but fortunately it had a side air bag. I hit a guardrail going sideways and backwards with the drivers door. HARD!
The air bag saved me from a big hurt. I was surprised to see the whole side of my seat blown open. I just figured it came out of the door panel.
I was hoping it was totaled, but they want to fix it. $11,000 plus in repairs, hope it drives the same.

glad you are ok.

There is a "SRS" or airbag label on the side of the seat, so I always assumed it came out of the seat.

I guess this is the first time I'm hearing that the side airbag works.

I just figured it was a better place to put the lable. It works great. I saw the G-rail coming at me and I thought, this is going to hurt, and then after the impact, I thought, that wasn't so bad. Never heard the bag, or saw it. But then I saw the seat and I knew why it didn't hurt. Cars trashed. I don't have any pictures, but both fenders, whole front, left side, rear wheel pointing left, rear bumper. Truck does not close, and right door doesn't open.

I'm surprised you didn't feel the air bag. There was a recent report of a child being killed by a side air bag (broken neck), and a reminder that kids should always be placed in the back seat. Glad to hear you're OK.

my friend just spun out in her 2002 accord and hit a gaurdrail and totaled the entire driver side but no air bag came out even though she has side airbags. when she went to honda , they said the sensors for the side airbags are in the front and rear of the car along w/ the air bag sensors... wtf??

That sounds stupid. Only my side bag came out, so I doubt they are in the same place.
