keep the daily beater or trade in??
hey everyone...
i am looking at purchasing a 2k1 cl type s very soon, the one i test drove is priced at 18,995 w/ 38k miles, auto, i was negot. with the sales mgr. there, and he said their firm price would be 17k out the door.
i have a 97 civic all paid for, with 100k miles on it, and at first i was going to trade it in, but they were only going to give me like 3k total for it. should i keep the civic, and use it for everyday driving, or get rid of it??
also is that a good price for that max??
all responses are appreciated...

IMHO, if you can afford to not trade the civic/sell it then by all means keep it as a daily, so as to not beat up the CL. A couple years ago I was a field technician averaging seriously 800-900 miles PER WEEK. I had just purchased my uncle's 330CI from him, and there was no way in hell I was going to subject that car to Los Angeles traffic for that many miles. Luckily, my mom had bought a new acura and given me her 1992 honda accord. It didnt look that great and the sunroof didnt work, but was well maintained and ran like hell. I put over 28,000 miles on that car in 1 year (and I acquired it when it had approx 150,000!!). You probably don't drive for work like I did, but still, imagine putting the mileage (not to mention door dings, wear and tear, spilled coffee, and being rear ended by a a Yukon!!) in the CL.
Keep the civic. Its a carsaver! And insurance will likely be a little cheaper too (mulitple cars)

^good post psd...
thats what i was thinking.
my weekly commute is roughly 250 miles(25 to and from work 5 days a week), and i wouldnt mind keeping the civic around just for that. fyi, im single, and dont own a home(yet) though thats going to be my next major purchase(townhome in early 04).
right now i have to park the cars in my assigned parking lot in my apt complex.

My guess is that they offered you 17k our the door offering you 3k for the Civic (meaning that the loss on the CLS is tha gain on the Civic - where they are paying you shit). So try to keep the 17k deal WITH NO TRADE IN.
My 2 cents

I have an old 96 Exploder just for that purpose. I can drive it anywhere, leave it anywhere and I don't give a shit what happens to it.

If the Civic has no major problems by all means don't sell it! Keep the Civic as an "attrition unit", you can use it when driving to high risk areas and never worry about your CL. I use an old 88 Cougar V8 as my beater, and I never have to worry about it when I park in San Fran.

As you can see from my sig. I also have an Accord beater. It's a nice thing to have when you're living in L.A. There are so many dings and marks and crap on the Accord I am so glad are not on the CL!

If you can afford it, keep the beater. I just got one and love not parking my 6sp in the train lot every day. Great piece of mind for me. I had many vandalism issues in the past.
