Kahn Man -- Any more news on 6-speed 2003 CLS?
You able to get any more info out of your buddy making the clutch for the new 6-speed CLS?
Dig dig dig ...

So I said, that's the same torque as now. He said,
"Just because torque doesn't increase doesn't mean HP stays the same, too. HP is torque times engine speed (with some unit conversions). Therefore if the torque peak stays the same but occurs 300RPM (or 500, 800, 1000, whatever) higher, then the peak HP increases without a peak torque increase.
I'd dig more, but I don't have an old torque and HP curve to compare to the new one (if we even have a new one). I got the torque number from our heat stress and torque safety factor calculation which is the spreadsheet that determines the basic aspect of a clutch...how much load it must have to clamp the engine to transmit full torque, therefore the torque number there HAS to be correct."

Good info... just to "chime in", if the "new" motor is a 3.2L and did put out the 295HP, the torque cuve could just "flattened-out"/"extended" (as the current headers and AEM CAI do on "most" of the CLS/TLS engines).
Bench racer hat now on...
I don't have any clue what the "real" deal is. but a cam tweak, some bigger valves, and/or even a "massage" of the factory's cast iron manifold would probably do wonders for the HP peak.
Couple that with the lower losses of the manual gearbox *and* the possibility of well selected gear ratios, and you have more "effective" torque at the wheels (compared to the auto's ratios).
I remember some people commenting on how the "test 6-speed" would chirp out of the first 3-4 gears (and that was probably just the stock engine)...
Finally, if the engine revs got bumped, (with all of the speculation above), the higher engine peak would allow an EVEN more aggressive set of low-ratio gears to be used to make for even more torque on the road...
provench: I don't know if the iVtech theory should be killed outright…
Hmmm.... Nice!

Kahn man - thanks for the scoop ...
EricL - good points ...
I am certainly hoping for the best cause the only thing that I expected was the 6-speed on top of the exact same car ... but with the 2 years since CLS released I think that Acura will need to do something more. I am just so anxious I can't stand it
I hope that in a few weeks when the cars come up for allocation that Acura releases details to the details (and press?) so that we will know for sure. Anyone know if that is standard practice as far as timing to release details when they take orders and start production of cars?

Acura seems to like Chicago unveilings. Didn't they unveil the RSX in Chicago last year and '99 TL concept there in '97? I got an RSX press kit last year, so perhaps I'll get lucky and score some CL info in 2002. I'm on it...
