I have been searching all over for one of these and can't locate one. I too called K&N and was told the same thing. They also referred me to several local K&N distributors but none of them have heard of this filter and said they could not order it for me.
What's up with that?

Try doing a search on K&N Filters. This topic has come up several times. As far as the CAPS, typing in CAPS is the equivalent of shouting. They're not being mean, just giving you a heads up....

Anybody seen the dyno sheet with the 2-4% boost in horsepower? 4% means we get 10+ HP boost at the crank? I'm skeptical.
The last thing I want is more maintenance for 'phantom' horsepower increases.![](http://www.acura-cl.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif)
I don't think they were claiming this in the past (from posts on 360hp.com and h-a.net).
There was also the issue of the 'P' filter vs. the one for the Type-S. There IS a difference.
Their webb site says...
"CL V6/3.2L K&N Air Filter 33-2178 CL-S/LID 17211-P8C-A00/ BASE 17244-P8C-A00"
Presumably the LID and BASE are Acura's part numbers or ???

I got mine from www.performanceproducts.com. It cost me $49 and change from them total including shipping. I got the K&N Filter for my 99 Prelude from them too. Good service, decent prices. You have to look up the part in their "print catalog" on-line to order it though. It isn't on their main website. You could always call them too. ![](http://www.acura-cl.com/ubb/biggrin.gif)

Just got a response from my e-mail of a few minutes ago to K&N regarding the air filter for the Type-S...
the text of my e-mail is 1st...
Gentlemen,
I participate in a number of forums. One of which is acura-cl.com where several
posters have attempted to find the K&N filter kit for the '01 CL Type-S (NOT the Premium version of the CL) with NO success.
Everything from 'never heard of that number' to 'get out of here' have been the supplier responses to the queries regarding the part number you have posted on your webb site.
from your parts list page...
"CL V6/3.2L K&N Air Filter 33-2178 CL-S/LID 17211-P8C-A00/ BASE 17244-P8C-A00"
My fellow Type-S owners are looking for the "33-2178" number. Presumably correct? Presumably, the LID and BASE numbers are Acura's number for the 'case' where the filter is installed?
Is there somewhere that TRULY HAS this product or is it so new that they aren't even being manufactured and boxed, let alone shipped out or ???
Also, I, and others, are curious where the '2 to 4% horsepower increase' someone was told when they called K&N about this filter comes from. Is this the general 'rule of thumb' for your filters or is this taken from actual dyno result comparisons using an '01 CL Type-S?
I've seen the K&N pages covering the improved CFM numbers but the Type-S filter is significantly different from other filters that Acura uses. Nor do I necessarily agree that all paper elements have the same flow characteristics.
If these claims are based on a dyno test scenario I would like a copy of them to post at the form. You will definitely get a number of takers if the boost in HP can be demonstrated on a dyno.
Thanks in advance for your help in this matter.

the response's text is below...
Dear customer,
33-2178 is active and has been shipped to many of our warehouse distributors. I do not see action among the chains stores yet but that would make sense. They can only order what their main office puts in their
computers. Updates happen only a few times a year and this is a new filter from us.
Independent speed shops are the best way to go for this one. Mail order companies like Summit Racing Equipment and Performance Products have ordered quantities. I do not have dyno sheets on this particular application. They may exist but R&D keeps all that info. We do not test each and every vehicle or engine size every year. 2 - 4 % is the average and consistent across our entire product line of drop-in filters. A K&N will out flow any and all disposable filters. Most importantly, it is just
as effective at particle removal as a paper filter. Only our intake kit dyno numbers are done repeatedly and distributed.
Thanks for writing, Rick

No one mentioned if they contacted Summit, etc. Sounds like a good place to start if they didn't steer you there to start with.
First guy to post his dyno results gets an atta-boy...
